The Mexican new light vehicle market soars 24.4% year-on-year in 2023 to 1,361,477 units. We are now above the pre-pandemic level of 2019 (1,317,937 sales) and 2023 marks the largest annual volume since 2018 (1,421,608). Challenged by Chevrolet last year, Nissan (+42.7%) reclaims its firm grip on the market and sees its share augment by more than two percentage points from 15.4% to 17.7%. It was #1 each month this year. Chevrolet (+11.4%) is far from being able to match the market growth and as a result its market share falls from 14.2% to 12.7%. Volkswagen (+32.6%) has an excellent year and leapfrogs past Toyota (+8%) and Kia (+4.9%). Mazda (+57.5%) does even better but stays at #6. MG (+25%) also camps on its 2022 ranking at #7 but was up to a record #5 with 8,320 sales and 5.8% share in December. No other Top 10 manufacturer beats the market. Below, Chirey aka Chery (+254.1%) ends its first full year in market at #14, by far the best-selling Chinese carmaker in the country. Omoda (+1031.8%) is up to #25.

Over in the models aisle, the Nissan Versa (+60.1%) reclaims the top spot off the Kia Rio down to #4. The Versa topped the charts for 10 months and celebrates a 7th win in the past 8 years. The Nissan Pickup NP300 (+53.1%) is also in outstanding shape and steps up one spot to #2 as does the Chevrolet Aveo (+69.5%) up to #3. Replaced by the K3 at the end of the year, the Kia Rio (-20.5%) falls to #4. The MG 5 (+43.4%) is up two ranks to #5 and peaked at #3 in December. The Mazda3 (+103.9%) up 15 spots to #8, the Mazda2 (+83.3%) up 22 ranks to #9 and Nissan Sentra (+28.3%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10. The Nissan March (+5.6%) stays at #6 while the Kia Seltos (+16.6%) breaks into the Top 10 at #10. Further down, the VW Taos (+169.8%), Virtus (+159.2%) and Chevrolet S10 Max (+90.1%) stand out.
