The upcoming Nissan Z Nismo could be offered exclusively with an automatic transmission.
A post on newnizzanz.com features screenshots of what appears to be an order guide, detailing a list of accessories, paint options, interior trims and transmission options for the 2024 Z range.
This appears to be a US order guide, given the presence of separate Sport and Performance variants; the Australian-market Z is offered only in a single trim level.
The Nismo variant is listed as being auto-only, while also including unique dual racing stripes and floor mats.
It appears unlikely a manual version will be offered in other markets if it won’t be offered in the US, a market known for liking manual transmissions in its performance vehicles – you can still buy a manual Volkswagen Golf GTI there, for example.
The screenshots don’t detail the mechanical changes the Nismo model is expected to receive.
The Z Nismo will be offered in Black Diamond Pearl, Brilliant Silver, Passion Red tri-coat, Everest White tri-coat and Stealth Grey, with all bar Black Diamond Pearl coming with a Super Black roof.
It appears Nissan will only offer one interior trim option. A screenshot shows “ALC. Accent” which suggests Alcantara upholstery will be offered on the Recaro bucket seats, previewed in Nissan’s official teaser video released last week.
“Stay tuned for full details later this summer,” the brand said in its release, indicating a full reveal will take place between now and the end of August.
The car featured in the video had an automatic transmission which sparked fears it mightn’t be offered with a manual, in contrast with its 370Z Nismo predecessor.
A more aggressive exterior design, including a ducktail spoiler, a pronounced front splitter, and reimagined side skirts differentiate the Nismo from the standard Z.
Additional changes include a red stripe circling the bottom of the car leading to more angular front and rear bumpers.
In the video, the Z Nismo is riding on the same grippy Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyres it was spotted with in earlier spy shots.
Red and white Nismo branding can be spotted on the headrests, rear bumper, and wheels, as well as on the digital instrument cluster graphics.
Nissan is keeping pricing and performance details under wraps for the moment, only describing the upcoming model as “a true icon of performance and style” to be equipped with “track-tuned performance, bold styling and a dynamic design.”
It’s unclear how much more power the Nismo will receive.
The outgoing 370Z’s Nismo variant, for reference, packed an extra 8kW and 8Nm over the standard 370Z.
The standard Z received a significant jump in power over its predecessor, dropping the naturally aspirated 3.7-litre V6 for a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 producing 298kW of power and 475Nm of torque.
Rumoured additions for the Z Nismo include a unique suspension tune, beefier brakes, chassis stiffening, Yamaha performance chassis dampers, a different exhaust, and a retuned electronic control unit (ECU).
Pricing in Japan for the Z Nismo is reportedly expected to be around ¥9 million (~$A93,000), which is around ¥3 million (~$A31,000) more than the current flagship model in that market.
In Australia, the Nissan Z is priced from $73,300 before on-road costs, while the sold-out Z Proto was priced at $80,700 before on-road costs.
Nissan Australia hasn’t confirmed if the Nismo will be offered locally but we know the company is planning to bring four new products to market.
We do know the Qashqai e-power and Patrol Warrior are coming this year and Nissan is looking to bringing the all-electric Ariya to Australia, so it begs the question what will be final model be.
