Off Highway Developments in 2023

Wondering what the top off road industry trends are for 2023!? A few years ago the newest fad word was “Overlanding”! Venture 2 Roam has some great comments on that topic, but we will save our comments to the professional!

In 2023, we are in a fresh frontier! A new landscape never ventured. Like a trail we keep hearing about by our friends, but we never truly know what to expect, until we experience it for ourselves. That is what 2023 feels like to us. But if we had some educational guesses, it would be these set of off road trends for 2023!

1. 40s are the new 37s

Yes, a few years ago all our friends were debating whether you can stuff 35s into a stock Gladiator Rubicon, but now a days with a 4.5 Gamechanger and trusses were dreaming of 40s in our sleep!

I think that is generally how it goes. Computer hard drive capacity started with no more than bytes, but as technology increased, the world wanted and needed more. In computer terms, terabytes aren’t out of the question just 30 years removed from nothing! But back to tire size, how far is too far? I think the industry will land at 40 inch tires as the ‘go to’ tire size in 2023-2026.

Additionally, there is only so big you can go without cutting fenders in most rigs. The Tacomas, Tundras, 4Runners, Raptors, 1500s, and a like all have enclosed fender wells. This makes tire limitations firm, unless the enthusiast invests more into fiberglass fenders, or cuts them wider.

2. Small is the new Big

Small is the new big?? Wait! I thought you said wheelers will be consistently increasing their tire size?

I did. However, this is something completely different!

We have noticed a growing trend. A trend that we believe will continue in 2023 and beyond. Large online communities, but large off road Jeep trail runs are probably a thing of the pass. Most people have been in a 100 vehicle line waiting to tackle a trail. It’s not a day on the trail most are looking forward to. Even our last trail run of 15 rigs was pushing it. So for the future of offroading, we will continue to see large online communities, but less large group trail runs, and smaller groups of 5-6 rigs getting close and wheeling together!

3. Waiting for the ‘STORM’ to Pass

As we detailed in our Off Road Industry Updates & Predictions for 2023, you may be wondering what the state of offroading is and what the economy is projecting for the next few years! We believe, overall, that most off road enthusiasts will be “waiting for the storm to pass” so to speak before investing more money or a greater amount into their rigs or before purchasing NEW off road vehicles.

Are you waiting for the storm to pass, to make a big purchase? Upgrade your off road vehicle to a newer one?
