When the going gets hot, we’ve all got to be a little more creative. If daytime temperatures feel overwhelming, why not have some outdoor fun in the cooler moments at night? That was my first thought when gazing at the beautiful night photography for Knog’s new MTB bike light.
It made me reflect on night climbing in Central Texas to skip the daily blast of solar radiation, or swimming after the sun goes down.
In other words: Temperatures may soar, but we can always find ways to enjoy the outdoors. Whether you’re looking for a techy ride like the Onewheel, nostalgic gear from Filson, or just a sweet new YETI cooler, you’ll find the coolest new stuff right here in Emerging Gear.
Onewheel GT S-Series Rally Edition
Say hello to Future Motion’s MTB upgrade to its unique line of electric boards: the Onewheel GT S-Series Rally Edition.
Billed as the brand’s most advanced model yet, it includes the new Recurve Rails. These asymmetrical, curved rails aim to improve control and leverage, with additional clearance for rugged terrain and steep gradients, the brand said.
It’s also got a factory-upgraded 6-inch motor hub for a smoother ride and tougher tires. Developed in collaboration with the Onewheel Factory Pro Team, the Rally Edition is designed to tackle mountain bike and single-track trails. Also, Future Motion announced a $300 price reduction on the original GT S-Series, now available for $2,900.
Filson x Helinox 2024 Collection
What’s not to love about this collaboration? These two new products from Filson and Helinox are supposedly inspired by a ham radio operation on a global expedition, and it shows in the worn, nostalgic appearance of this portable chair and table.
The high-back Savanna Chair ($300), made with aluminum and recycled polyester fabric, weighs 4 pounds 5 ounces — but supports up to 320 pounds. The Table One Hard Top ($200) offers superior stability and portability, weighing 2 pounds and supporting up to 110 pounds. Both items are available in a limited-edition Otter Green color scheme.
Skullcandy Active Collection
Skullcandy has launched its new Active Collection, including three true wireless earbuds designed for active lifestyles. The collection includes Push Play Active, Push ANC Active, and Sesh ANC Active.
Skullcandy’s Push ANC Active earbuds, priced at $100, offer up to 37 hours of battery life with ANC and IP67 waterproofing. Sesh ANC Active, at $90, provides up to 28 hours of battery life with ANC and similar durability. Push Play Active, priced at $60, delivers up to 34 hours of battery life and IP55 water resistance. All models support rapid charging, multipoint pairing, and custom sound profiles via the Skullcandy app.
Knog Blinder X
Knog has launched a complete rebrand and expanded its lighting solutions, including new lights for cyclists.
As part of this transformation, Knog introduced the Blinder X Range, featuring 1,800- and 2,300-lumen light heads. These lights, equipped with a 10,000mAh battery, provide extended illumination for long rides and are available in both bar-mounted and helmet-mounted options.
The Blinder X 1800 Front Bike Light is priced at $220, and the Blinder X 2300 Front Bike Light is available for $270.
YETI 15 Hard Cooler
YETI just released a slimmer size for breezy summer adventures: the Roadie 15 Hard Cooler.
This compact cooler, priced at $200, is the latest addition to the Roadie family. Despite its smaller size, it can hold 22 cans or 16 pounds of ice and is compatible with wine bottles. Designed for portability, the Roadie 15 will pair well with ATVs, paddleboards, kayaks, beach trips, and fishing outings.
Altra Olympus 6
Can you really have too many trail runners?
That’s my rationalization for eyeing the Altra Olympus 6, which sure looks spiffy and ready to roll. It’s got a breathable mesh upper, an updated Achilles pillow for support, and a sticky Vibram Megagrip for the outsole. It costs $175.
If you want some extra weather protection, it’s also available as the Olympus 6 Hike Low GTX ($200) with a waterproof GORE-TEX membrane, or the Olympus 6 Hike Mid GTX, for those wanting more ankle support.
Mission Workshop Speedwell
If you’re looking for a waterproof backpack to keep your computer safe on adventures, this one is worth a look.
Mission Workshop just introduced the Speedwell, a versatile, fully weatherproof backpack priced at $335. Designed for either rainy city dwellers or adventure enthusiasts, this U.S.-made pack has a breathable harness, a padded laptop compartment for up to 16-inch MacBooks, and a magnetic closure.
Other features include dual exterior water bottle holders, an internal hydration compartment compatible with up to 3L reservoirs, adjustable waist belt, chest straps, and a built-in light loop. External dimensions are 12.5″ x 19″ x 4.5″, with an internal volume of 20L and a weight of 2.84 pounds.
Leatherman Signal – Guava
This might be the cutest multitool I’ve ever seen. But while the new Guava color is certainly fetching, it’s still just an aesthetic change to Leatherman’s popular Signal model.
Priced at $140, the Signal has 19 tools, including a firestarting ferro rod, a 420HC combo blade, and an emergency whistle. To celebrate the new release, Leatherman is offering a 20% discount on any Signal multitool purchased between June 28 and July 31.
Tactacam already produces effective trail cameras. But this week, it released two significant upgrades to its lineup, the REVEAL Pro 3.0 and the REVEAL X 3.0.
Both cameras work with multiple cellphone carriers to use the strongest possible signal in the field. And both produce 4K photo and video quality.
They’re a step up from the current line with re-engineered antennas for better durability and overall more user-friendly designs. They also have built-in storage and GPS, better image sensors, faster send capabilities, fewer false triggers, new aspect ratios, and a live app aiming.
The biggest difference between the two is that the Reveal Pro ($155) has a no-glow IR flash, while the Reveal X ($125) uses a low-glow IR flash, which is slightly more visible to humans and animals. But both look to be strong contenders in the world of remote trail cameras.
Pearl Izumi Americana Collection
Pearl Izumi launched its limited-edition Americana collection just in time for the Fourth of July. Designed to honor USA Cycling and Team USA, this collection adds some American style to reliable bike threads.
The Attack Jersey ($100) is available in men’s and women’s styles. It has a form-fit light polyester fabric with UPF 25 sun protection, a YKK semi-locking front zipper, three rear pockets, and reflective elements for night visibility.
The Attack Bib Shorts ($150), also available for both men and women, include a silky knit body, low-profile elastic leg bands, an ELITE Levitate chamois, and a mesh bib upper. The shorts have a 10″ inseam and reflective elements.
CAT Invader Mecha
This shoe looks like Bumblebee transformed himself into a work sneaker — and I mean that in the best way possible.
The CAT Invader Mecha work shoe, which has sold out twice in previous limited-edition runs, is back in stock. Priced at $145, this work-to-play shoe is modeled after robotics and traditional CAT machinery, with a heavily lugged, slip-resistant rubber sole, and industrial-grade protection and durability, the brand said.
It’s also got a composite toe for added protection, making it the toughest shoe in the Invader collection, according to CAT. The shoe is available in unisex sizing.
