The Agora Doha is a boutique hotel nestled in Qatar’s new city of Lusail, and is a brand-new addition to Marriott’s Autograph Collection portfolio as of 2022.
Agora Doha – Booking
On average, you can expect to pay $625–725 QAR ($230–$269 CAD) per night at the Agora Doha. As one might expect, prices during the 2022 FIFA World Cup were inflated much further.
When booking this property on Marriott Bonvoy points, the rate typically falls in the region of 22,000–30,000 points per night.
On the day of my stay here, I had arrived in Doha at 2am, and simply needed a place to crash until the following afternoon. My official World Cup accommodations were in a local apartment booked for the following night, with check-in starting at 3pm.
Doha’s major chain hotels had largely continued blocking award availability when booking in advance during the World Cup.
However, to my delight, the Agora – which had only opened a week before – happened to be releasing a few extra rooms that hadn’t been sold for booking on points, so I went ahead and redeemed 30,000 Bonvoy points for a one-night stay for the opportunity to rest my head for the night at a pristine new Autograph Collection hotel.

Agora Doha – Location
The Agora Doha is situated in Lusail, overlooking the Lusail Marina.
Lusail is the second-largest city in Qatar and lies north of Doha’s city centre. This new city was essentially built specifically for the World Cup, sprawling along the coastline and playing host to marinas, resorts, residential and commercial projects, man-made islands, and several entertainment districts.
The Agora Doha sits right across the street from Place Vendôme Qatar, an architecturally extravagant Parisian-inspired luxury shopping mall that also houses the Le Royal Méridien Doha.
Meanwhile, next door to the Agora is the newly opened Waldorf Astoria Lusail Doha, completing a trio of luxury hotels in this area that’s sure to be popular as the city of Lusail grows over time.
Nearby attractions include the Lusail Marina Promenade and the Doha Golf Club, both of which are around a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Doha’s main sights and sounds, like the Souq Waqif and the Museum of Islamic Art, are a 20-minute ride away.
To get to the hotel on the night of my arrival, I took an Uber from Doha International Airport, which was close to a 30-minute journey.
Agora Doha – Check-in
As I arrived quite late, it wasn’t until the following day that I noted the hotel’s sleek and modern glass façade and contrasting beige stone walls of the building. Moreover, the entrance was complemented by a tranquil water feature flowing out front.
Upon entering the lobby, I found a lengthy lounge space with ample seating, leading towards the check-in desk at the far end.
The ground floor boasts a spacious seating area with plush burnt tan sofas, and an additional seating area at the far-left end of the lobby.
I was eager for a quick check-in process, so I could catch up on sleep. The Agora Doha is an all-suite hotel that offers generous suite-style rooms to all guests, so there was no need to “suite-talk” this time around.
I was assigned a Deluxe Suite and then was handed my keys, and I quickly made my way to my room, eager to get some rest.
Agora Doha – Deluxe Suite
I was immediately impressed by my suite, which came with a refined and spacious living room and a fully appointed kitchen.
The suite is adorned with marble flooring, contrasting wood finishes in the kitchen, and a sophisticated colour palette of midnight blue and gold accents throughout.
The seating area, adjacent to the kitchen, features two plush sofas and a modern black and gold coffee table, with a patterned rug that ties the space together.
The flat-screen TV is positioned against the wall opposite the seating area for optimal viewing.
To the right is a matching dining table with seating for four.
The kitchen is also a generous size, with sleek wooden finishes and complete with modern appliances, including an oven, microwave, toaster, and all the necessary cooking utensils.
In the right-hand corner was a Nespresso coffee maker, as well as an electric kettle.
Additionally, there was a large fridge and ample cabinet space stocked with dishware.
To my surprise, the suite was also equipped with a washer and dryer, which proved to be very useful at this point in my trip.
Unfortunately, the floor became flooded with water when I used the washing machine. Thankfully, the water didn’t flow into the rest of the suite, but this is definitely something for the hotel to sort out sooner than later.
The bedroom featured a comfortable king bed as the focal point, stylishly flanked by sleek bedside tables with chic lamps. The king bed faces a secondary flat-screen TV that’s nestled into an oak armoire, with a small ottoman tucked neatly beneath.
Stepping into the bathroom through a small foyer, the alcove bathtub is set into the right-hand wall.
The interiors boast elegance with a double vanity, tall mirrors, and a very sleek design. The shower and toilets are to the right and left, respectively.
I thought the design of the bathroom was stunning, and was especially drawn to the harmonious marble floors and walls of the bathroom.
Another small gripe was that the shower water never got hot; however, I chalked it up to the growing pains of the initial opening phase.
A secondary half-bathroom is located back at the suite’s entrance with a regular toilet and a bidet. There’s a large mirror and free-standing sink, which was a stylish touch.
Lastly, the suite has a balcony which faces Place Vendôme, equipped with two patio chairs and a small side table.
Overall, I found my stay in the Deluxe Suite to be very pleasant, and precisely what I needed for my one-night stay before heading off to my local accommodations.
Aside from a few minor issues during my stay, the suite was beautifully appointed and comfortable, and I was particularly pleased to have access to a washer and dryer for a much-needed opportunity to get some laundry done.
Agora Doha – Breakfast
Breakfast is offered in the Agora Lounge on the ground floor of the hotel. The lounge is the hotel’s one-stop laissez-faire dining venue, where breakfast, light bites, coffee, and to-go items are mixed into one.
It’s a bright and airy venue, with large floor-to-ceiling windows that afford a lovely amount of natural light while you enjoy your breakfast alongside a hot cup of coffee.
Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite members and above can enjoy unlimited portions from the buffet spread as a part of their benefits.
The buffet wasn’t the most wide-ranging and was a relatively simple spread, but had all the essentials that one would expect, including Western staples and Arab specialties.
The spread features pastries, cereals, and muesli, as well as a selection of salads and Lebanese dips such as baba ghanoush, muhammara, and hummus.
The usual Western suspects included waffles, pancakes, turkey bacon, sausage, hash browns, grilled vegetables, eggs, and beans.
There was also a made-to-order omelette station, which is always a nice option.
Cured meats and cheese, including akwai cheese and Lebanese labneh balls, are also available from the cold spread.
I opted for a made-to-order omelette, smoked salmon, and creamy avocado slices. The quality of the food was great, and the attentive service provided by the hotel staff was certainly appreciated.
Agora Doha – Other Facilities
I paid a visit to the hotel’s fitness centre, which features nice high ceilings and commanding views of the hotel’s rooftop pool, for a quick workout.
The fitness centre was modest in size, but equipped with a good range of modern equipment.
The cardio machines in the fitness centre included two treadmills, two cycles, and one elliptical machine. Additionally, there was a comprehensive selection of weight machines and free weights.
The hotel also features a steam room, sauna, and whirlpool, although I didn’t get a chance to check them out on this stay.
However, I did head to the rooftop infinity pool. The pool looked like an enjoyable spot to take a dip or unwind with panoramic views of Lusail and the nearby Waldorf Astoria (which I must say looks absolutely gorgeous, and is a property I’ll have to check out on a future visit to Doha).
There were comfortably appointed sun loungers surrounding the pool on a lower-level deck, while a jacuzzi, along with more sun loungers and umbrellas, was located nearby.
During my stay, I was surprised that I didn’t see a single guest spending time up here, as the pool had some very nice views and was a particularly nice vantage point for the sunset.
Indeed, I found the hotel to be pretty sparsely occupied throughout my stay, which was surprising given the volume of travellers in Doha at the time (though not necessarily surprising as the hotel had just opened last week).
Upon conversing with the staff after a generous 5pm late check-out, I was informed that the name Agora means “marketplace” in Greek, and that the hotel has big plans to bring in programming like art shows, storytelling events, and other culturally enriching activities to enhance the overall guest experience.
Conclusion
The Agora Doha is a brand-new Autograph Collection property that aligns well with the ultra-modern new city of Lusail. I was happy to be able to try out the new property, and it served my needs well before I headed to my local apartment in the city.
This hotel wasn’t the most extravagant Autograph Collection property I’ve visited, and there are indeed a few kinks the hotel needs to work out during its launch phase.
Nevertheless, the Agora Doha offers generously appointed suites with an elegant charm, a prime location in Lusail, and a good breakfast offering. As the hotel grows into itself, I’d imagine it’ll only improve, making it a worthwhile place to stay if visiting or passing through Qatar in the future.
