Porsche’s latest 911 variant celebrates 60 years of the brand’s iconic model line, and is aimed directly at purists.
Just 1963 examples of the Porsche 911 S/T will be produced, and a “limited number” of these will be coming to Australia.
The S/T is priced at $660,500 before on-road costs, with an available Heritage Design Package adding $36,760 to the sticker.
Porsche says the S/T “combines elements of the 911 GT3 RS with the body of the 911 GT3 with Touring Package and
supplements it with lightweight components specially developed for the 911 S/T”.
“Unlike the 911 GT3 RS,” Porsche notes, “the focus of the development of the 911 S/T has been not on track use, but rather for journeys on public roads.”
As befitting its role celebrating the 911’s rich past and targeting purists, the S/T packs a naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six engine with 386kW of power, mated with a six-speed manual transmission.
The official 0-100km/h claim is 3.7 seconds, with a top speed of 300km/h.
The S/T is the lightest member of the 992 generation, with a kerb weight of just 1380kg – 40kg lighter than a manual 911 GT3 Touring.
The front bonnet, roof, front wings and doors are all made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP), as are the roll cage, rear axle anti-roll bar and rear shear panel. The bucket seats are also made of CFRP, with the four-way-adjustable Sports Seat Plus option available.
Weight savings have also been found through the use of a lithium-ion starter battery, lightweight glass, and reduced insulation.
Porsche has removed the 911’s standard rear-axle steering, while retuning the dampers and control systems accordingly. It has also fitted the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system.
There’s a new lightweight clutch which, in conjunction with a single-mass flywheel, reduces the weight of the rotating mass by 10.5kg. It has been developed specifically for the S/T.
“This noticeably improves the responsiveness of the naturally aspirated boxer engine, which now builds revs with especially bracing speed and directness,” the company claims.
A Gurney flap features on the extending rear spoiler, while 20-inch front and 21-inch rear lightweight centre-locking magnesium wheels are wrapped in 255/35 ZR 20 and 315/30 ZR 21 tyres, respectively.
The S/T can also be distinguished visually through the classic green colour scheme of its instrument cluster and clock.
The available Heritage Design Package pays homage to the racing version of the 911 S from the late 1960s and early 1970s, referred to internally as the ST.
It brings an exclusive Shoreblue Metallic exterior finish with wheels finished in Ceramica and badging finished in Gold, as well as classic-design Porsche crests.
Buyers can also add a starting number from 0 to 99 on the doors, plus a decorative foil.
Inside, the cloth seat centres are finished in Classic Cognac with black pinstripes, and contrast with two-tone semi-aniline leather trim in Black/Classic Cognac. The headliner is finished in Dinamica suede.
Australian-market S/Ts will be fitted with a tyre fit set, auto-dimming interior and exterior mirrors with rain sensors, LED headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System, a front-axle lift system, digital radio, and a reversing camera with rear parking sensors.
In addition to the limited edition 911, Porsche is also offering a limited edition timepiece called Chronograph 1 – 911 S/T, with a rotor in the shape of the car’s magnesium wheel. It’s priced at $21,041.
