Porter Airways Launches New Routes to Los Angeles & San Francisco

Earlier this year, Porter Airlines announced the Fall 2023 launch of seven new routes between Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and destinations in Florida.

Today, the airline revealed the latest US destinations that will be served by its growing fleet of Embraer E195-E2 jets.

As of January 2024, Porter Airlines will launch new routes from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Porter Airlines Launches New Routes to Los Angeles & San Francisco

Porter Airlines has announced that it will launch new routes from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO).

The flights are set to begin in January 2024, and will be served by Porter’s growing fleet of Embraer E195-E2 jets, which offer an all-economy cabin in a 2-2 configuration.

Porter’s first route to California is set to begin on January 16, 2024, with the debut of flights from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Los Angeles (LAX).

The flight times for this city pairing are as follows:

  • PD663 Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Los Angeles (LAX), departing 10:30am and arriving 1:05pm
  • PD664 Los Angeles (LAX) to Toronto Pearson (YYZ), departing 2:45pm and arriving 10:42pm

Porter’s second route to California is set to begin on January 25, 2024, with the debut of flights from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to San Francisco (SFO).

The flight times for this city pairing are as follows:

  • PD669 Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to San Francisco (SFO), departing 10:30am and arriving 1:22pm
  • PD670 San Francisco (SFO) to Toronto Pearson (YYZ), departing 2:40pm and arriving 10:46pm

From the outset, both routes will operate daily, and passengers will enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi, snacks, beer, and wine.

The flights are loaded into Porter’s schedule, and can be booked with cash or VIPorter points throughout the schedule.

Where Will Porter Fly Next?

This year, Porter Airlines has been on a hot streak when it comes to new route announcements.

Since taking delivery of its first Embraer E195-E2 jet in late 2022, it has launched a number new routes, primarily from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) but also from Ottawa (YOW), to the following destinations:

  • Charlottetown
  • Winnipeg
  • Edmonton
  • Calgary
  • Vancouver
  • Victoria
  • Orlando
  • Fort Lauderdale
  • Fort Myers
  • Miami
  • Tampa

These new routes all come in addition to its existing short-haul service to cities in Eastern Canada and the US East Coast.

When it started taking delivery of the new jets, Porter Airlines mentioned that destinations across Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean were all well within reason for new routes.

On the Porter Airlines website, there’s a map that lists a number of “Potential” new destinations that the airline will service.

Of those listed, San Francisco and Los Angeles can now be added to the “New” routes.

This would leave Saskatoon and Regina as the remaining Canadian destinations to which the airline may launch flights, as well as Las Vegas, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, Atlanta, Charlotte, and West Palm Beach in the United States, and Nassau in the Bahamas.

Of these, my guess is that Porter continues to prioritize popular leisure destinations, which could see Las Vegas, Phoenix, West Palm Beach, and Nassau as the next routes up for grabs.

With the constant drip of new route announcements coming from Porter Airlines, this likely won’t be the last time we hear about new destinations before the end of the year.

Conclusion

Porter Airlines has announced that it will launch new routes from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) in early 2024.

These routes join the seven new routes to destinations in Florida that will launch this fall, as well as pre-existing service to major cities on the US East Coast.

As the airline continues to take delivery of new jets, we’re sure to hear of even more route announcements in the weeks and months to come.
