Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! When I was around six or seven years old all I wanted was a Red Ryder BB gun. I like many kids who grew up watching A Christmas Story were more or less brainwashed into thinking that was the best possible gun for a kid. I am sure Daisy sees record sales yearly on their little lever action. It’s odd to think they started out selling windmills before ever diving into air rifles. I was fortunate enough to not only have lived through the moment (obviously) but also as an adult been able to rewatch the tape it was being filmed on in the moment. I remember they pulled the whole hide it behind a nearby cabinet deal instead of putting it under the tree. I remember being genuinely disappointed I did not get the one thing I wanted. All I wanted for Christmas was a Red Ryder BB gun. Then like in the movie they pointed to the box poking out, and as I opened it you could imagine my disbelief after that stunt was pulled. In the tape I kept going “Is it really a Red Ryder? Is it, Dad?”. My family was always one to pull pranks so I totally assumed the box was empty or that some clothes were stuffed inside. It was the real thing though. I used that gun until the BBs barely could leave the barrel anymore. What a great investment given the industry I would one day come to work in.
