POTD: Dracula Would Have Rolled With This – Romanian Steyr 1912

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! The Romanian Steyr 1912 has been marked and characterized like those ordered by Romania beginning in 1913. Around twelve thousand Steyr Romanian Steyrs were manufactured, this one showing a serial number on the frame and slide, checkered grips on the pistol, and a lanyard staple on the bottom of its magazine. A specific date of production can be identified with the dating inscriptions above the safety and cartridge release. Most Romanian Steyr 1912 pistols that were brought into the US have their crest erased or defaced retaining only numerical serialization. Nevertheless, it follows the overall configuration of a Steyr 1912 with its rotating breech bolt system and incorporated ammo supply.

“Manufacturer: Steyr
Model: 1912
Type: Pistol
Gauge: 9 mm Steyr
Barrel: 5 inch round
Finish: blue
Grip: walnut

This pistol was made by Steyr for the Romanian military and has the standard Romanian crest over 1912 marking on the left side of the slide, along with “STEYR 1914″. Matching serial number on the slide and frame. Checkered grips and a lanyard staple on the magazine base.”
