POTD: Ergonomic Evolution – The Smith & Wesson Model 29-6

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day!  One of the most significant changes in the Smith & Wesson Model 29-6 when it was launched in 1994 was the improved ergonomics and accessory options that came with it. The .44 Magnum chambering, N-frame design, and weighty revolver were retained while some improvements were introduced. The major change that occurred in this model is moving from traditional wooden grips to Hogue rubber Monogrips. These changes increased shooting comfort while taming recoil for handling powerful cartridges like the .44 Magnum. Another significant improvement incorporated into the Model 29-6 was the inclusion of tapped holes for scope mounts. This feature made revolvers more versatile by facilitating hunters and target shooters who wanted to attach optical sights without custom gunsmithing. It has kept the durability enhancements of its predecessors internally. Its enhanced ergonomics and better optics mounting meant that it became a much more adaptable firearm for different types of shooting such as hunting or competitive shooting. This version signified S&W’s adaptation to changing shooter preferences while retaining its iconic status among firearms enthusiasts as well as collectors.

“The included factory letter lists this revolver as having a 6 inch barrel, blue finish, and synthetic grips when shipped to Lew Horton Distributing Company on November 29, 1995. The letter further states the embellishment on the revolver was done by the distributor as the revolver had nothing extra when it left. An attached note states the engraving was done by either Lambert Engraving or Baron Technologies. The side plate is marked “001 of 100″ among the engraving. Provenance: The Supica Collection”
