Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Gordon Ingram designed the Model 6 in 1948 as a .45 ACP submachine gun. The Ordinance Police Company assembled this weapon from 1949 to 1952. However, it looked like a Thompson machine gun, simpler techniques of producing it were employed using stamped sheet metals. Notably, it had an open bolt operation mechanism, a fixed firing pin, and a two-stage trigger for semi and full-auto fire. It was equipped with a thirty-round stick magazine; otherwise, it measures nine inches long in its barrel length while also having an overall length of thirty inches. Primarily conceived as a lower-priced alternative to law enforcement agencies, its production volumes remained limited alongside sales figures being far less than expected. It was followed in 1952 with the Model-7 featuring closed-bolt operation. The initial design that came before his more successful MAC-10 and MAC-11 models is known as the Model-6.

This was one of the newer type submachine guns designed by Gordon Ingram. Later, he gained fame by designing the very successful MAC-10 and MAC 11 SMGs. Although this weapon is similar in outward appearance to the Thompson sub-machine gun, it is very different and uses a machine bolt and barrel assembly with various stamped sheet metal parts including the receiver similar to the MP40 and STEN submachine gun concepts. “
