POTD: Not Your Common Tommy Copy – The Demro XF-7

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day!  The Demro XF-7 Wasp is a one-of-a-kind chapter in American firearms history; It’s a semi-automatic carbine that falls under the original Fox Carbine design, which makes it one of the few open-bolt weapons allowed by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) regulations. This Wasp model and its predecessors were available in common pistol calibers such as 9mm Parabellum and .45 ACP. Such rifles had a unique screw-delayed blowback system, which made them different from conventional designs. To bring more modernity to the firearm market, Demro introduced synthetic materials as a replacement for wood furniture and incorporated folding stocks to ensure better mobility into its XF-7 Wasp variant. The earlier models possessed some strange features like an integrated stun device or even built-in combination lock. Demro carbine family enjoyed little production despite its intriguing design and multipurpose usage. In total, about 3,500 units were manufactured before ATF stopped making them in 1983 due to concerns over easy conversion to fully automatic mode. These weapons are now known as collectibles because they are rare examples of gun design from the 1970s up till early 1980s; they also have special place in regulatory history.
