Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! The Smith & Wesson Model 29-2, which first appeared on the market in 1961, is a fabled revolver which found itself getting famous after it was spotlighted in Clint Eastwood’s classic film of 1971 “Dirty Harry”. This update built on top of what the initial model 29 had set by bringing about some more improvements in its design. The major difference observed in the 29-2 was that one screw used to hold the cylinder-stop spring was removed. By streamlining its internal mechanism, this enabled the company to make it less complex in terms of manufacturing while ensuring its performance and dependability were not compromised at all. Otherwise, though, these changes did not affect the pistol’s features because they still featured pinned barrels, recessed cylinders, and powerful .44 Magnum chambering that defined the Model 29 line. The gun retained its blued finish and wooden grips so as not to compromise anything on its timeless look that ensured continued popularity among users both civilian shooters and law enforcement agencies personnel. Model 29-2 played a significant role in promoting the Dirty Harry movie into a cult film thus elevating Model 29’s standing as the most powerful production handgun ever made at that time.
