POTD: The Remington 760 – A Beloved Pump-Motion Looking Rifle

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day!  When Remington unveiled the Remington 760 in 1952, they struck gold with northeastern hunters. This pump-action rifle married the quick follow-up shots of a shotgun with a bolt-action’s accuracy and punch. Chambered in hard-hitting rounds like the .30-06, .270, and .308, it could handle just about any game a hunter might encounter. The 760’s rotating bolt head, borrowed from its shotgun cousin the 870, locked up tight for consistent accuracy. Hunters loved the detachable box magazine for swift reloads in the field. Where the 760 really shone was in the thick stuff – its smooth pump action was perfect for those split-second shots at deer ghosting through dense brush. Remington kept cranking out 760s until 1981, when the updated 7600 took its place. But the 760 had already cemented its reputation. Even today, hunters and collectors snap up used models, drawn to its blend of reliability, accuracy, and lightning-fast handling. For many, the 760 wasn’t just a rifle – it was a trusted hunting companion.
