Probably the most highly effective Porsche Cayenne ever is a hybrid


Porsche has revealed its most powerful Cayenne ever with a heavily revised Turbo E-Hybrid flagship.

The performance plug-in hybrid is priced at $288,400 before on-road costs or $297,200 before on-roads as a Coupe. That slots it between S models and the Coupe-only Turbo GT.

We’ve contacted Porsche Australia to confirm specific arrival timing for the model.

The Turbo E-Hybrid pairs a 130kW electric motor with an “extensively reworked” 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 441kW of power, for total outputs of 544kW and 950Nm – up 44kW and 50Nm on the previous Turbo S E-Hybrid.

That makes it good for a 0-100km/h time of 3.7 seconds, 0.1 seconds quicker than the old model, with a top speed of 295km/h.

It also means the Turbo E-Hybrid pumps out 59kW more power than the Turbo GT, though that model still beats it to 100km/h with a sprint time of just 3.3 seconds.

Porsche promises greater electric range from the new Turbo E-Hybrid, though it doesn’t quote a figure. The pre-update model had a WLTP claim of 42km.

It now packs a larger 25.9kWh battery (up from 17.9kWh) and an 11kW on-board charger, with Porsche also promising shorter charging times.

The company says it has improved not only day-to-day usability, but also the hybrid Cayenne’s driving dynamics.

Adaptive air suspension is standard with new two-chamber, two-valve technology, which allows the rebound and compression stages of the suspension’s operation to be adjusted separately and is claimed to offer a greater variation across drive modes.

Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus is standard, with rear-axle steering optional.

The front-end styling of the Turbo E-Hybrid resembles that of the Turbo with its enlarged front air intakes with gloss black air blades. Down back, there are twin brushed stainless steel exhaust outlets.

Other changes to the Turbo E-Hybrid mirror those applied to the rest of the Cayenne range, such as a revised dashboard with a curved 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster, a repositioned gear selector, and a redesigned centre console.

The Turbo E-Hybrid models also features aluminium dashboard and door inlays and a headliner finished in Race-Tex.

  • Panoramic roof system (Cayenne only)

14-way leather comfort seats are also available, as is a 10.9-inch screen for the passenger’s side of the dashboard.

Standard safety equipment includes:

  • Adaptive cruise control with emergency stop function
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Lane-keep assist with crossroad assist (no-cost option)
  • Surround-view camera
