After its May announcement of additional capacity, Qantas plans to add even more seats over the next year to and from Australia with a mix of larger aircraft and expanded frequencies, the carrier announced Monday. Qantas currently is at about 80 percent of its pre-Covid international capacity levels, and expects to reach 100 percent by March 2024, and exceed that beginning in July 2024, according to the carrier.
Qantas will increase Sydney-Los Angeles service in July 2024 to nine flights per week from eight and will operate with a mix of Boeing 787 and Airbus A380 aircraft. The Melbourne-Los Angeles route will see capacity increase by about 20 percent with the use of additional Airbus A380 aircraft, also beginning in July 2024.
Service on the Sydney-Auckland-New York route in August 2024 will increase to daily from four times per week, according to Qantas.
In addition, beginning in July 2024, the carrier will operate Airbus A380 aircraft on its route between Sydney and Johannesburg, South Africa, “nearly doubling capacity during peak periods.” Further, this October, Qantas will use Airbus A330 aircraft instead of Boeing 737 planes for its Sydney-Bali route, which allows for more premium seats and fully flat beds in business class.
