One of our favorite guest posters is back to share more easy fashion tips with us.
Brittany Ricketts is the co-founder of House of Preservation, former fashion blogger, amazing mother & just has a style we’re very drawn to. After her last post on classic outfits with a twist, Lauryn had to invite Brittany back on to share her affordable must-haves with you.
Let’s welcome Brittany back to the blog.
♡♡♡
Hi, I’m Brittany. I am the co-founder of House of Preservation, a skincare, beauty and wellness brand with medical spa locations in Dallas and Austin. This is my second time on the blog, and I’m happy to be back!
I elaborated on how I got to where I am without an MBA when Lauryn originally invited me to be on her blog (I actually dropped out of college, hehe). I’ve been establishing my company, House of Preservation, for seven years and there are still many years to go, but we’re finally at a place where I’m able to lean into things like fashion again, that has always inspired my creativity.
Lauryn and I both seem to share a passion for the finer things in life, but she also appears to appreciate a good find just as much as I do. I think it’s important to know a brief version of my background, if you will, to appreciate this post.
When I first attempted fashion blogging as an early 20-something, my budget didn’t exactly allow for the designer things I lusted over and it *never* mattered. I was inspired by classic pieces, good styling, vintage, and consignment. It was about being savvy. A decade later, with a bigger budget to fuel my addiction, I still pair my investment pieces with $25 tanks.
Affordable Fashion Items Everyone Should Own:
♡ WHITE TANK:
A fundamental piece of clothing. A well-fitted, cropped and cut ribbed tank can change your life in terms of how much use you get out of it. The classic way, of course is: tank, jeans, and a good jacket, but don’t stop there! I’ve also styled it with a maxi bohemian skirt and under a corset top. It’s just one of those pieces that you’re so glad you have when you need it to pull a look together.
I can personally attest to the quality of this Abercrombie tank as someone who is prepared to spend the most necessary. In fact, it’s the item I’ve posted on Instagram Stories that has sold the most so far.
♡ LBD:
The little black dress is the security blanket of clothing. I take solace in the fact that it is there, hanging and ready, just in case my Uber arrives in five minutes and I have nothing to wear.
Tip: order a size up even in form fitting and tailor as necessary. Something with texture or structure will disguise effectively and make it seem elegant with just the right amount of edge (my favorite combination).
♡ FOR UNDER:
A core tube top is a great piece to have for layering under a blazer or fitted jacket that you may take off at your final destination. This is slightly off-topic but worth noting: anytime my clavicle is going to be on full display, like with a tube top, I always add highlighter to the tops of my shoulder and my clavicle bones. It makes the light hit in the right places and gives off a healthy glow.
Another important detail: this bra is the best and the only strapless bra I’ve ever liked. A pair of sticky boobs is also a necessity if you don’t already have some.
I’m hoping that my rediscovered enthusiasm for sharing my everyday outfits and fashion advice on @brittrix will provide outfit ideas for all budgets. Just because something is moderately priced, doesn’t mean you have to compromise on its quality and appearance. Style it correctly, complement the glam, and do it with confidence. You sexy bitch.
