Reborn Ford Mustang GT California Particular coming quickly

Ford is gearing up to dust off a classic badge on its latest Mustang.

A new teaser from Ford boss Jim Farley shows a shadowy grille with a GT/CS badge, in a clear nod to the California Special appearance package that has been sporadically offered on the Mustang since 1968.

“Can’t wait to show you what’s next for Mustang…”, Mr Farley wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The last California Special brought a heritage-inspired side stripe and unique badging, including a GT/CS badge on the honeycomb grille.

A performance rear wing was available for the fastback, while the convertible went without a spoiler. Both body styles rode on unique 19-inch painted machined wheels.

Inside it picked up another badge, an instrument panel finished in carbon hex aluminium, black suede door trim inserts, and suede seats with an embossed logo and red contrast stitching.

Given it’s based on the Mustang GT, the California Special will likely feature the same 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated Coyote V8 engine.

In the GT it makes 347kW and 550Nm, mated with a choice of six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing for the 2024 Mustang GT in Australia kicks off at $77,002 before on-road costs.
