Camiguin Lanzones Festival: Celebrating 45 years of the sweet life
The province of Camiguin marks a new milestone in celebrating the sweet life as it marks the 45th Lanzones Festival, one of the country’s longest-running cultural festivities, from Oct. 20-27.

The tourist festival, which evokes the charming island lifestyle, is named after the tropical seasonal fruit which is reputed to be the sweetest variety in the archipelago.
This saccharine-tasting fruit is due to the generous amounts of rainfall and sunshine, the island’s volcanic nature and the healthy intercropping system of coconut and lanzones trees.
Camiguin governor Xavier Jesus Romualdo said the weeklong fest will showcase once again the rich culture, vibrant community spirit, and the natural wonders of the island province.
He said that beyond the sweetness of the fruit and the frenzied street dancing, the event will also put the spotlight on its development and governance strides when it was carved from its mother province Misamis Oriental in 1966.
Merry-making fires off on Oct. 20 with a grand parade of street dancers and contingent floats, and an evening concert with Oh! Caraga, Maki, Angela Ken & Nameless Kids rocking the night away.
Also opening are the Ugmad Agro-Industrial-Tourism Trade Fair which will display municipal and institutional booths featuring their products and tourist attractions, and the Daos Ki: Festival Food Bazaar, where guests can feast on mouth-watering street food.
Highlights include the Festival King and Queen and Diwata Showdown on Oct. 24, the Mutya sa Buahanan Coronation Night on Oct. 24, and the Inter-Agency Street Dancing and Ground Presentation Competition on Oct. 26.
Swaying to the native kulintang and percussion instruments, participants will render the Sajaw Kinamigin which infuses ethnic tribal music from lumad Manobo, Bagobo, Subanen and Tboli indigenous peoples which have made the island their home.
Major events will be held at the PPR Tourism and Sports Complex in the capital town of Camiguin.
Adding to the colorful and tropical vibe of the fest are the municipal and barangay halls which will be dressed up with lanzones-themed adornments and free samplings of the fruit to guests and passers-by.
Romualdo said that in between the events, guests can tour the iconic destinations such as White Island Sandbar, Ardent Hibok Hibok Springs, Sto. Nino Cold Spring, Katibawasan and Kawasan Falls, Sunken Cemetery, Taguines Lagoon, the Walkway to the Old Volcano and Stations of the Cross, and the Bonbon Church ruins complex, a National Museum National Cultural Treasure.
He added that visitors can also go scuba diving at the several dive sites which captivated divers and underwater photographers in the recent Dive Northmin photo competition of the Department of Tourism-Region 10.
