In this week’s edition of “Home on the Range,” we are going to take a look at the new Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro cellular trail camera to see if this is something you will want to put on your property this fall. We gave Moultrie Mobile quite a bit of coverage last year on their Edge Pro cellular trail camera, and now we want to learn what is new about the Edge 2 Pro. According to Moultrie Mobile, it is “the ultimate upgrade… building on the EDGE 2, the PRO version captures more in the field, faster.” Bold statement and we shall find out if it is true.

Welcome to our reoccurring series of “Home on the Range.” Here, we would like to share all of our experiences for those who may be homesteading, living off the land, hunting, farming, ranching, and truly investing in nature and the great outdoors. The ability to provide for yourself and your family can be tremendously rewarding and simultaneously difficult at times. So, in “Home on the Range” we want to share our different exploits so you can learn and hopefully we can receive your feedback along the way as well.
Early Season Archery Prep – Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro Cellular Trail Camera
In my home state of Minnesota, archery season for whitetail deer opens up in 1 week. Normally, it would be a little short-sighted to be putting out a trail camera 1 week before the season to call it “early season prep,” but it is so hot out yet for us Northerners (and the deer, too) that there is not a ton of daytime activity yet. As a result, its valuable for me to try and document what whitetail deer might be on my property since I am not seeing a ton during the day.
Deploying the Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro Cellular Trail Camera
An important part of managing a deer herd is capturing an accurate inventory of what deer you might have. That is where trail cameras become so valuable. So, placing the new Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro on an untapped part of my property will definitely help with that.
To get started, you need a bevy of batteries to keep this trail camera functioning. In total, you can install 16 AA batteries for the longest performance, but it will also run and function on only 8 batteries as well. I opted for the full 16 AA batteries when I put it out because I am optimistically anticipating a lot of photos (fingers crossed).
Something that Moultrie Mobile has added to this new design is a “bridge” piece that can help you angle your camera exactly how you want it. Instead of having to do the ol’ shove a stick behind the camera trick that we all do, you can now more precisely angle your trail camera.
Once you have your batteries loaded up and the bridge mount added so you can adjust the angle of your camera perfectly, the next step is to aim your camera. Through a feature on this model called “Live Aim,” you can ensure proper camera placement with a live preview.
With those few simple steps, I was essentially ready to go. I skipped over how to register your camera and add it to the Moultrie Mobile app, but Moultrie does a terrific job of explaining that in one of their YouTube videos. So, I will allow them to explain the finer points of getting your Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro cellular trail camera up and running.
Bringing in Wild Game with Big & J Attractants
The portion of property that I am placing the Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro cellular trail camera on is quite wet and has irregular structure. With an area that is difficult to game plan for yet I know deer frequent it, I will be relying on some mineral attractants to get deer to pose for the camera. These Big & J Attractants we will be covering more thoroughly in future “Home on the Range” articles in the future.
Departing Thoughts – Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro
I am excited to see what kind of photos we can get using the Moultrie Mobile Edge 2 Pro along with these Big & J Attractants. My area has a lot of wild turkey, whitetail deer, raccoons, and even an occasional bobcat. Hopefully, next week we will have some pretty rad photos to share with all of you! As always, let us know all of your thoughts about Moultrie Mobile and the Edge 2 Pro Cellular Trail Camera in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.
