[SHOT 2024] GLOCK Expands 5th Generation With G29 Gen5 in 10mm and the G30 Gen5 in .45 AUTO
Glock has announced the expansion of their 5th Generation lineup with the G29 Gen5 chambered in 10mm and the G30 Gen5 chambered in .45 AUTO. This announcement was made at the SHOT Show 2024, showcasing Glock’s commitment to continually developing new technologies and expanding their product line.
The G29 Gen5 and G30 Gen5 have both undergone over twenty design changes from their Gen4 predecessors. Glock’s meticulous development of these new models is intended to cater to the global consumer demands. Notable enhancements shared by both models include an ambidextrous slide stop lever, the removal of finger grooves, and the integration of the Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB) which boasts enhanced polygonal rifling and an improved barrel crown for enhanced accuracy.
The G29 Gen5 chambered in 10mm AUTO is described as a compact pistol that delivers a considerable punch, making it an excellent choice for concealed carry. Introduced in 1983, the 10mm AUTO remains a versatile semi-automatic pistol cartridge which, despite having experienced a dip in popularity due to recoil concerns, maintains a dedicated user base and has begun to grow in popular usage since 2007.
The G30 Gen5, on the other hand, offers the increased accuracy of the Glock Marksman Barrel coupled with the ballistic power of the .45 AUTO cartridge.
The 10mm AUTO, despite being slightly less powerful than the .357 Magnum, is known for being a high-velocity cartridge that gives it a less arcing flight path or “flat-shooting” relative to other handgun cartridges. In fact, powerful loadings can closely match the highest performing .357 Magnum loads and retain more kinetic energy at 100 yards than the .45 ACP has at the muzzle.
Glock also announced the increased compatibility of the Glock Performance Trigger with more Glock models. The 2024 release of the Glock Performance Trigger allows compatibility with Gen4 models. Compatible models now include G26 Gen4/Gen5, G19 Gen4/Gen5, G17 Gen4/Gen5, G34 Gen4/Gen5, G19X, G45, and G47.
The Glock Performance Trigger now ships with a Gen5 slide cover plate, which must replace the slide cover plate on Gen4 models to ensure compatibility and proper functionality.
Both G29 Gen5 and G30 Gen5 are now available at Glock dealers.
