The Vauxhall Mokka is up to a record 2nd place in the UK in February.
February is traditionally the weakest month of the year in the UK as customers await the March license plate change. This year February sales soar 26.2% year-on-year to 74,441 units, however this is still -6.5% below pre-pandemic February 2020. The year-to-date tally is up by a robust 18.6% to 206,435 sales. Private sales vastly trail the market as they edge up 5.8% to 29,391 and 39.5% share vs. 47.1% in February 2022. All the work this month is done by fleet sales up a whopping 46.2% to 43,738 and 58.8% share vs. 50.7% a year ago. Business sales are stable at +0.7% to 1,312. Year-to-date, the strong trend towards fleets is even more visible. Private sales drop -1.2% to 89,030 and 43.1% share vs. 51.8% last year whereas fleet sales surge 40.3% to 113,278 and 54.9% vs. 46.4% over the same period a year ago. Business sales are up 2% to 4,127.
Looking at sales by alimentation, petrol gains 34.9% to 32,311 and 43.4% share vs. 40.6% in February 2022, diesel skids -14.6% to 3,348 and 4.5% share vs. 6.6% a year ago, MHEV are up 32.5% to 12,116 and 16.3% share vs. 15.5%, BEV trail the market at +18.2% to 12,310 and 16.5% share vs. 17.7%, PHEV are up 1% to 4,723 and 6.3% share vs. 7.9% and HEV soar 40% to 9,633 and 12.9% share vs. 11.7% last year. Year-to-date, petrol is up 21% to 91,281 and 44.2% share vs. 43.3% over the same period in 2022, diesel is down -13.1% to 8,628 and 4.2% share vs. 5.7%, MHEV are up 15.8% to 34,478 and 16.7% share vs. 17.1%, BEV match the market at +19.1% to 29,607 and an unchanged 14.3% share, PHEV edge up 0.8% to 13,832 and 6.7% share vs. 7.9% and HEV gain 40.4% to 28,609 and 13.9% share vs. 11.7%.

Ford (+54%) doubles the market growth to reclaim the brands top spot for the first time since last October. It was close though, as Volkswagen (+107.6%) ends the month just 35 sales below and lodges the same market share at 9.2%. Volkswagen however remains by far the best-selling carmaker year-to-date with 9.3% share vs. 7.8% for Ford. Vauxhall (+23.4%) rallies back up 8 spots on January to land on the third step of the podium, its highest ranking since last June (#2). Audi (+39.9%) and Hyundai (+38.6%) also beat the market to round out the Top 5. Skoda (+110.5%) is up spectacularly year-on-year and four ranks on last month to smash its ranking and share records at #6 and 5.4%. Its previous bests were #8 (July 2014, December 2018, December 2018 and February 2020) and 4.4% (July 2014 and February 2021). Nissan (+123.8%) also shines at #10 as do Seat (+89.3%), Renault (+68.7%), Dacia (+319.3%) and Land Rover (+50.6%) below.
Model-wise, the Vauxhall Corsa (+41.1%) scores its first win since last June and claims the YTD pole position in the process. The Mokka (+23.2%) makes it a Vauxhall 1-2, a very rare occurrence, and breaks its ranking record at #2. Its previous best was #3 in August 2017 and February 2022. The Ford Puma (+36.5%) is up four spots on last month to #3 ahead of the Nissan Juke managing its first Top 10 finish since December 2021 (#4 also) and the Hyundai Tucson (+96.7%) at #5. The Tesla Model Y (+13.5%) is back inside the UK Top 10 at #6 while the VW T-Roc drops five ranks on January to #7 but remains #2 year-to-date. The Toyota C-HR delivers its second ever Top 10 finish at #10, its only other appearance being #9 in March 2022.
