Skoda Octavia reclaims prime spot, market up 13.1% – Greatest Promoting Vehicles Weblog

The Skoda Octavia is the best-selling vehicle in Austria in April.

The Austrian new car market is up 13.1% year-on-year in April to 18,504 registrations. April 2022 was off -26.6% over the year prior so we remain at historical low levels. Sales are up 18.6% year-to-date at 81,556. Atop the brands ranking, Volkswagen (+26.1%) and Skoda (+18.8%) both vastly outpace the market in contrast with BMW (-9.1%), Audi (stable), Ford (-3.5%) and Mercedes (-16.3%) all underperforming. At #7, Hyundai (+16.2%) is the only additional Top 10 member to grow faster than the average rate. Below, Dacia (+63.7%) impresses once again while MG (+204.2%), Tesla (+530.8%), Nissan (+125.6%), Alfa Romeo (+125.5%), Citroen (+102.8%), Suzuki (+59.4%) and Peugeot (+52.5%) stand out further down.

Over in the models aisle, the Skoda Octavia (+116.2%) reclaims the top spot it held over the Full Year 2022 with 2.7% share vs. 2.8% so far this year. It is the only model to surpass 2% share, illustrating a very fragmented market. The Toyota Yaris/Cross (+1.5%) is up 11 spots on last month to #2 just as the Tesla Model Y (+540.7%) sports a surreal gain and drops just two ranks on March to #3. The Model Y keeps the year-to-date crown. The VW Golf (+55.7%) is once again unusually strong, distancing the BMW X1 (+70.3%) and Hyundai Tucson (+155.9%) surging up to #6. The VW Tiguan (+123.2%), Cupra Born (+76.4%) and VW Caddy (+74.3%) also shine below.
