Spend the day with us in South Lake Union

As someone who recently moved to Seattle from New York City with my husband and little pup, I couldn’t wait to head out and experience all that Seattle has to offer. So, when the chance came to explore the South Lake Union area, I was ready to go!

Fully embracing the cozy weather, we started our adventure indoors with a little (competitive) game of minigolf at Flatstick Pub SLU. Right when you walk in you feel the energy in the air as you work your way through the pub. Rounding the corner, you’ll come face to face with a 9-hole course that features mythical creatures, including a 12-foot-tall Sasquatch and a vibrant pink owl that will scowl at anyone trying to beat them as you pass. Gaining some liquid courage from the pub’s local beers on tap, we set out onto the course to determine who was the ultimate minigolf master. Our score card “accidentally” got lost towards the end, so we’ll count it as a tie.

For those who have a little extra time to spare, Flatstick’s 9-hole Duffleboard™ Course (which is a mix of minigolf and shuffleboard) will surely not disappoint. Full transparency, as newbies to the game, it took us a couple of tries before we figured out how to play, but once you get the hang of it, the game takes a fun twist.

After grabbing some light bites at the pub, we headed off to our next destination: Ski SLU. These fun little photo ops throughout South Lake Union made for some festive memories to share with our family and friends back home. Visitors can get into the winter spirit with Summit at SLU at Nitro Plaza, they can cozy up by the fire at Aprés SLU at the Day 1 Playfield, or they can Let It SLU with a magical snowstorm at Van Vorst Plaza (available daily from 4-5pm). Pro tip: Ski SLU is open now through January 6, 2023.

If you’re like us and need just a few more gifts for this holiday season, than wandering around South Lake Union’s ample number of shops provides the perfect excuse to go browse for some last-minute goods. We stopped by Sub Pop Records on Seventh Avenue, which had a wide assortment of t-shirts, hoodies, various trinkets, and vinyl records. The team was super friendly and helped us pick out the perfect gifts for our friends.

A full day of adventure calls for a cozy meal indoors, so that’s where we headed to next. We made our way to 2120, which offers flavorful New American cuisine that changes seasonally. Daring to step away from my usual Old Fashioned, I decided to start with one of their seasonal cocktails, the Honey Badger. Made with Tito’s vodka, honey crisp apple shrub, dulce de leche, ginger and fresh lemon, the cocktail provided a sweet introduction to the meal that was about to come. My husband and I have always had a firm belief that food is meant to be shared, so whenever we go out, we order food that the both of us will want to try so we don’t miss out on all the flavors. One order of the fried calamari, steak, and duck breasts later and we were pleasantly satisfied with full bellies in tow.

Needing to walk off our meal, we made our way to The Seattle Barkery to source a special treat for our mini goldendoodle Whiskey. He’s not a fan of being left at home for the day, so our guilty conscious came into play, and we walked out with a few more treats from the display.

It was time to head back home after our day in South Lake Union, so we hopped in the car and made our way. Until our next adventure around our new city!
