Springfield Armory has announced a new 1911 DS Prodigy Comp 9mm with porting to ensure less recoil, smoother cycling, and a more pleasureful shooting experience. This announcement comes off the heels of Springfield announcing a Coyote Brown Cerakote last week. These new additions are greatly expanding out their 1911 DS Prodigy family to give gun owners a lot of options to choose from.
Specifications – Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy Comp 9mm
The Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy Comp 9mm will sport all of the same features we have come to know through the Prodigy line with the added benefit of a massive port in the end of the barrel and slide for an even better shooting handgun. There will be 2 new models initially debuted with a 4.25″ and 5″ offering coming first.
- 1911 DS Prodigy Comp 9mm | 5″ Black (PH9119AOS-COMP) | MSRP $1,599
- 1911 DS Prodigy Comp 9mm | 4.25″ Black (PH9117AOS-COMP) | MSRP $1,599
Why Add Porting to the 1911 DS Prodigy 9mm?
The integral compensator on the Prodigy Comp is discreetly designed, featuring a single port on the top of the hammer-forged slide and barrel. By redirecting gas upwards, it reduces muzzle rise and enhances control allowing for faster and more accurate follow-up shots. Additionally, the tritium front sight is positioned behind the compensator to ensure an uninterrupted sight picture.
A Word from Springfield Armory on the 1911 DS Prodigy Comp 9mm
Many of the people who would entertain purchasing one of the 1911 DS Prodigy are going to compete with it, or deploy it for discerning defensive purposes. With that in mind, the simple addition of an integral compensator to the barrel and slide is going to improve that shooting experience considerably. Springfield Armory is excited – and rightly so – and they share that excitement in their press release statement for the Prodigy Comp below:
The Prodigy Comp from Springfield Armory® takes the proven 1911 platform and enhances it with double-stack capacity and a performance-driven feature set. Reconfigured around a double-stack magazine, the polymer grip module mounts to a forged steel frame, offering capacities of 17+1 and 20+1. The AOS-compatible slide and barrel assembly is integrally compensated to reduce muzzle rise, while a Picatinny rail is ready to accept today’s most popular accessories. The Prodigy Comp combines the most beloved characteristics of the 1911 with modern capacity for unrivaled performance.
I, personally, own one of the original Prodigy handguns and am absolutely in love with it. The addition of a compensated version to the lineup is sure to be a hit. As always, let us know all of your thoughts about Springfield Armory, the Prodigy, and especially the 1911 DS Prodigy Comp in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.
