Spy pictures reveal grander BMW 2 Collection Gran Coupe

The next-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has been spied for the first time ahead of its expected reveal sometime during 2024.

These latest images show two camouflaged 2 Series Gran Coupe prototypes, reportedly codenamed F74, with one on the back of a car carrier, and the other captured during road testing.

Bimmerpost user ynguldyn, who claims to compile leaks from within BMW, has said the new 2 Series Gran Coupe will go into production from the end of 2024.

The design of the next-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe appears to be evolutionary, with the spied prototype retaining a sleek silhouette – but there aren’t as many sharp lines as the current model.

We’re yet to see any interior spy photos of the new 2 Series Gran Coupe but it’s expected to gain a version of the BMW Curved Display and fewer buttons than the current model.

It’s expected the next-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will be built on an evolution of the current UKL2 platform that underpins the likes of the 1 Series, 2 Series Active Tourer, X1, and X2.

This means the new 2 Series Gran Coupe will likely retain its front-wheel drive setup with all-wheel drive on certain variants.

It’s unclear what will power the new 2 Series Gran Coupe, but 48V mild-hybrid assistance is a possibility.

The current model is available with three turbocharged petrol engines locally. Turbo-diesel engine options are available in other markets.

The current 218i is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine producing 103kW of power and 220Nm of torque. This is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The current 220i is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 141kW and 280Nm. This is also mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The current M235i xDrive flagship is powered by a more powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 225kW and 450Nm. This is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Australian-specification versions of the current 2 Series Gran Coupe are front-wheel drive apart from the M235i, xDrive which has all-wheel drive.

The current-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe was first revealed in 2019 and launched in Australia during 2020.
