STR: Sept. Resort Charges Rise, Occupancy Slips YOY

Average revenue per available
room and daily rates among U.S. hotels in September increased year over year,
while occupancy slipped, according to hotel analytics firm STR. RevPAR, ADR and
occupancy, however, all increased month over month.

September U.S. hotel ADR was
$160.18, up 3.5 percent year over year and above August’s ADR of $153.60.
RevPAR was $106.07, up 2.9 percent year over year and above August’s $101.35.

Average U.S. hotel occupancy in
September was 66.2 percent, down 0.5 percent year over year, but a slight
increase from 66 percent the month prior. This bump from August reflected the
first month-over-month increase in U.S. hotel occupancy since May.

Among STR’s top
25 markets, New York City reported the highest occupancy in September at 87.6
percent, up 1.6 percent year over year. Markets with the lowest hotel occupancy
