Subaru deploys tote constituted of recycled airbags

Subaru is collaborating with Japanese company Re-S to create tote bags from unused airbags.

The bag is made from recycled airbags manufactured by Japanese company Toyoda Gosei, partly owned by Toyota. Toyoda Gosei also produces other automotive parts for both Subaru and Toyota.

Subaru has the tote advertised via its Japanese website for 2750 yen (A$31). Japanese customers can select from pink or blue dyed ribbon options. The bags also feature a reflective material on the handle so it can be seen at night.

The bag is 550mm long, 340mm wide and 120mm deep, which according to the Japanese carmakers site can fit a “hot spring towel”.

It’s not clear how long Subaru Japan plan to sell the tote online, but the brand’s Japanese Facebook account posted the new product and its customers are keen to get their hands on one.

Re-S have an extended range of recycled airbag tote bags. Some designs include recycled seat belts as handles.
