Take a peek at Volkswagen’s up to date Golf GTI sizzling hatch

The 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI has been captured undergoing testing, revealing some minor cosmetic updates.

The updated hot hatch is expected to debut in early 2024.

It has slimmer headlights and the red stripe above the grille extends past the headlights to give a winged eyeliner effect.

The new front bumper design doesn’t appear to feature the current car’s chequered flag-inspired fog lights.

Our spy photographers note the black accents on the front bumper appear to be just tape to make the updated model look like the outgoing model, when in fact the front has been tweaked to look more like the GTI Clubsport.

An image of what appears to be the facelifted Golf in R-Line guise was leaked recently, and it features a similar front bumper and headlight design to the spied prototype.

The wheels retain a five-spoke design, but each spoke is now hollowed out.

The side profile appears unchanged, which is to be expected for a mid-life update.

At the rear, there doesn’t appear to be any noticeable changes, however this could evolve as the vehicle nears production.

If you look closely at the tail lights, there is what appears to be red tape, which could be camouflaging the new light signature.

Inside, it’s expected the Golf GTI will adopt a larger 12.3-inch infotainment screen which the German carmaker uses in the 2024 Passat – which Australia will miss out on – and the 2024 Tiguan SUV.

There isn’t an official word on if there are any powertrain changes however as Volkswagen moves closer to producing only electric vehicles in Europe by 2033 it’s possible the Golf GTI could adopt some form of electrification.
