Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared some details on the upcoming Cybertruck on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, before the host shot an arrow at it.
First deliveries of the long-awaited Cybertruck are scheduled to take place during a “delivery event” being held at the company’s Gigafactory in Texas on November 30.
The Tesla CEO claimed the Cybertruck was partially bulletproof, and confirmed audiences will get shown a video showcasing how tough the exterior of the Cybertruck is.
In the meantime, Mr Rogan demonstrated the thickness of its stainless steel body, with the arrow failing to pierce it and instead bouncing off.
While Mr Musk has previously warned specifications may change from those announced at the reveal of the original concept in 2019, he confirmed some key details.
He told Mr Rogan that Tesla is aiming to “get the 0-60 [0-96km/h sprint time] below three seconds”.
He also confirmed how much the electric ute will weigh.
“It depends on configuration but it’s about 7000 pounds (3175kg),” he said.
For reference, Ford’s all-electric F-150 Lightning weighs 2885kg with its extended-range battery.
According to the Tesla website, the electric ute will boast up to 804km of range and be able to achieve a 0-60mph (0-96km/h) time of 2.9 seconds.
It will feature a 1587kg payload, towing capacity of over 6300kg, and 2831 litres of storage space spread out through the ute’s tub, interior and ‘frunk’.
In a similar tone to when he appeared in the company’s Q3 earnings call last month, the Tesla CEO restated on the podcast how difficult the manufacturing process is for the stainless steel-bodied Cybertruck.
“It is going to require immense work to reach volume production and be cash flow positive at a price that people can afford,” he said in the earnings call.
However, when talking about a rough production timeline, he said “I think we’ll end up with roughly a quarter million Cybertrucks a year,”
“I don’t think we’ll reach that output rate next year, we’ll probably reach it sometime in 2025.”
However during the podcast, Mr Musk appeared to reduce his expectations, although it’s possible he misspoke.
“We’re aiming to make about 200,000 a year, maybe a little bit more.”
The Cybertruck has been spied testing in public numerous times, with the most recent sighting occurring late last month showing the Cybertruck tackle an off-road course.
Mr Rogan’s arrow demonstration isn’t the first time a Cybertruck has been attacked.
At the concept’s 2019 reveal, lead designer Franz von Holzhausen smashed two of the “armour glass” windows with a metal ball, while a prototype was recently spied after being peppered with bullets from a Tommy Gun.
