The first few customer deliveries of the long-awaited Tesla Cybertruck electric ute have taken place in North America, with the company also detailing the initial range of optional accessories that will be available.
At this stage Tesla hasn’t detailed any pricing for the range of accessories.
The headline act among the accessories list is the so-called Basecamp pop-up tent which attaches onto the tub area.
Tesla claims the Basecamp provides enough space for two adults “comfortably” and can pump up in “minutes”.
At this stage Tesla has only published a single photo of the Cybertruck with the Basecamp attached, however there’s also a short video on its website that shows how it looks on the inside.
The inside of the Basecamp pop-up tent has a geometric patten and provides enough space for adults to sit upright. There’s also an awning that extends out past the electric ute to provide shade and partial rain protection.
In addition to the Basecamp, Tesla will offer an optional full-width LED light bar that mounts to the top of the windscreen and resembles the main headlight light bar.
Tesla claims this optional light bar is capable of lighting up almost 500 metres ahead of the Cybertruck.
There are also optional rails that mount on the downward sloping section of the roof. This means they not only are over the panoramic glass roof, but also the tub area that can be closed off with an electric tonneau cover.
One of the last genuine accessories that has been detailed at this stage is the so-called Range Extender which is essentially a toolbox-sized battery pack that’s installed behind the cabin in the tub.
At this stage there have been no details provided about the Range Extender’s battery capacity, nor how easy it is to install and remove from the ute’s tub.
What we do know, however, is in order to reach the claimed range targets Tesla quoted on certain Cybertruck variants you’ll need to have the Range Extender.
A notable absence from the Cybertruck’s accessory range at launch is the Cyberquad electric quad bike that was revealed alongside the original Cybertruck concept back in 2019.
The company has since revealed the Cyberquad for Kids which is a smaller all-terrain vehicle (ATV) designed for children.
It costs US$1900 (~A$2800) and is powered by a 500W electric motor which is fed by a 36V battery pack. Tesla claims it has a top speed of 16km/h and can do up to 24km on a single charge.
At this stage it’s unclear if Tesla ever plans to actually produce a full-size version of the Cyberquad given full-scale production of the Cybertruck is set to commence during 2024.
