Rare Top 10 finish for the Opel Astra.
The Dutch new car market soars another 37.8% year-on-year in June to 41,366 sales, meaning the H1 2023 tally is up 31.3% or almost 50,000 units to 201,793. Volkswagen (+122.1%) surges ahead to reclaim the brands top spot it holds year-to-date, dislodging Kia (+30.6%) while Peugeot (-10.8%) disappoints. Tesla (+470.8%) shoots up 7 spots on June to reach #4 but remains well below its level of last March at 6.6% share vs. 8.4%. Skoda (+69%) and Renault (+63.9%) are the only additional Top 10 members to outrace the market with BMW (+18.1%) and Hyundai (+15.4%) managing double-digit gains but Toyota (+6.8%) and Opel (+4.3%) weak. MG (+344.7%) knocks on the Top 10’s door at #11. Lynk & Co (+314.5%), Mazda (+202.1%), Volvo (+178.1%) and Suzuki (+103%) also impress.
Over in the models ranking, no surprise on top: the Tesla Model Y (+445.4%) holds 4.3% of the market vs. 3.4% year-to-date where it also leads. The Peugeot 208 (+3.1%) stays in 2nd place, a ranking it also hold halfway through the year while it ranked #1 over the Full Year 2022. The Kia Picanto (+122.9%), VW Polo (+59.6%) and most strikingly the Tesla Model 3 (+477.2%) round out the Top 5 in spectacular fashion. The Lynk & Co 01 (+314.5%) also scores a surreal lift to rank #6 vs. #5 year-to-date. The Volvo XC40 (+361.5%), Opel Astra (+348.2%) scoring a rare Top 10 finish at #8, and Renault Captur (+57.4%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10.
