The Subaru Forester ends the month on the podium.
The Icelandic new car market drops -12.3% year-on-year in August to 1,166 sales, leading to a year-to-date volume off -12.8% to 12,702. Tesla (+2275%!) is ultra dominant at 24.4% share, its highest level since the 34.1% of September 2021. Tesla sells almost as much as the next three carmakers combined. Toyota (-39.6%) and Kia (-52.4%) suffer devastating losses to round out the podium above Volkswagen (-1.3%) holding ok and a freefalling Dacia (-56%). Polestar (+3000%), Subaru (+1500%), Volvo (+371.4%) and Mazda (+200%) stand out below.
Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y climbs to a record 23.5% share, eclipsing its previous best of 21.2% hit last November. It holds 13.3% of the market year-to-date. Despite finishing 2nd for the month, the Dacia Duster is down to 2.8% share vs. 6.6% so far this year. The Subaru Forester skyrockets to third place vs. #63 year-to-date, it distances the Polestar 2, Toyota Prado and Kia EV6. The VW Kombi, Toyota bZ4X, Dacia Sandero and Hyundai i20 complete the Top 10.
