The Jeep Compass ranks #2 in Iceland in September.
The Icelandic new car market tilts down -4.7% year-on-year in September to 1,136 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 5.5% to 13,837. Tesla (+5.5%) advances to 28.9% share, its largest so far this year. It is followed by a struggling Toyota (-7.2%) and an even worse performing Kia (-29.6%). Jeep (+189.3%) surges 18 spots on August to #4 overall, distancing a cratering Hyundai (-50.4%). Nissan (+152.9%), Volvo (+58.1%) and BMW (+14.8%) also post year-on-year gains in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Mercedes (-64.8%) and Volkswagen (-52.9%) both sink.
Over in the models lane, the Tesla Model Y suffocates the market with a 2nd consecutive share record at 28.4%. It has now passed the 2,000 year-to-date units, holding 14.6% share there. Jeep places two models on the podium: the Compass at #2 vs. #42 year-to-date and the Renegade at #3 vs. #64. The Kia EV6 climbs to 4th place with 2.8% share above the Kia Niro and Nissan Qashqai both at 2.6%. The Polestar 2 drops three spots on last month to #7 but remains above its YTD level at 2.2% of the market vs. 1.5%. The Toyota bZ4X stays at #8 while the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Volvo XC40 close out the Top 10. Notice also the Ford Mustang Mach-E up to #11, the Subaru Solterra scoring its first Top 20 finish at #12, the Skoda Enyaq at #15 and the Renault Megane E-Tech at #17.
