Tesla production volume declined during the third quarter of 2023 amid upgrades to the carmaker’s factories.
The US electric vehicle (EV) carmaker produced 430,488 cars globally during the third quarter of 2023 and delivered 435,059 cars.
There were 416,800 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles produced during the third quarter of 2023, with 419,074 examples delivered.
13,688 examples of the Tesla Model S and Model X on the other hand were produced during the third quarter of 2023, with 15,985 examples delivered.
These figures are notably down on the production and deliveries numbers from the previous quarter, though Tesla attributes this to production facilities being upgraded in order to prepare for the updated Model 3 and Cybertruck.
“A sequential decline in volumes was caused by planned downtimes for factory upgrades, as discussed on the most recent earnings call,” said Tesla in a statement.
Despite the slip in production numbers, Tesla still claims its 2023 volume target of “around 1.8 millions” remains unchanged.
Tesla recently revealed the updated Model 3 which is due to start arriving in Australia between January and March 2024.
For now Tesla has only detailed the Model 3 RWD and Model 3 Long Range, though an updated version of the flagship Model 3 Performance is understood to be on the horizon.
Tesla has previously said it planned to commence customer deliveries of the Cybertruck electric pickup in the third quarter of this year, however it’s now the fourth quarter of 2023. It also plans to ramp up to full-scale production in 2024.
Electrek reports the first examples are expected to go to Tesla employees.
The outlet reports it expects Tesla to reveal pricing and full specifications at its official first delivery handover event.
