Mercedes-Benz has teased an updated version of its largest SUV on Twitter ahead of its official reveal on April 4.
A single, shadowy teaser image depicts the updated Mercedes-Benz GLS, revealing its updated headlights but little else.
It’s hard to identify any exterior changes however previous spy photos indicate there will also be an updated design for the front bumper, along with new tail light graphics.
Mercedes-Benz says there will be “new software and equipment changes”.
The current GLS has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well as a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment that runs the MBUX operating system.
The related GLE has stuck with these screens with its mid-life update, though it runs the latest generation of the MBUX system.
Other changes made to the GLE, which we can expect to see reflected on the GLS, include new alloy wheels, a touch-sensitive steering wheel and new paint options.
There are currently Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach versions of the GLS, which are expected to be updated as well. These versions may be revealed at a later date.
The current Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class is offered in Australia with a choice of two 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder powertrains.
The petrol GLS450 offers 270kW of power with 500Nm of torque while the diesel GLS400d produces 243kW and 700Nm.
Mercedes-AMG has a GLS63 4Matic+, which uses a 450kW/850Nm twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre petrol V8 engine.
Mercedes-Maybach also offers a GLS variant with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 under the GLS 600 nameplate, but its outputs are lower than the AMG’s at 410kW and 730Nm.
All models feature a 48V mild-hybrid system, a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
The third-generation GLS Class has been on sale in Australia since 2019.
It was the second best-selling vehicle in its segment last year, behind only the BMW X7. A total of 840 X7s were sold against 803 GLSs.
