Soothing Discomfort: Exploring Rose Oil’s Potential for Aches and Cramps

Many people experience aches and cramps, whether from menstrual cramps, headaches, or muscle soreness. These discomforts can significantly impact daily activities. Rose oil, extracted from rose petals, has been used traditionally to soothe discomfort. While research is ongoing, some studies suggest it might offer relief.

Menstrual cramps: Menstrual pain from severe cramps can leave a woman feeling miserable. You can take pain relievers, a heating pad (the only one I use, love and had for years is the Thermophore classic moist heating pad) , alcohol or massaging the abdominal area with rose essential oil and almond oil as the carrier oil. A study compared the effects of a topical massage with rose oil diluted in almond oil versus almond oil alone on women experiencing menstrual cramps. The group using rose oil reported a reduction in pain compared to the control group using only almond oil.

Headaches: Limited research suggests inhaling rose oil might help with headaches, possibly due to its calming and pain-reducing effects. One study suggested it may especially benefit those with migraine headaches. However, more studies are needed.

Muscle soreness: Rose oil’s anti-inflammatory properties may be beneficial for muscle soreness after exercise. Remember to dilute rose oil with a carrier oil before topical application.

How Rose Oil Can Enhance Mental Well-being and Stress

Rose essential oil has a relaxing effect and has been associated possibly having benefits for lowering blood pressure while ushering in a sense of calm to lift stress, improve moods, anxiety, and depression.

Stress reduction: An interesting study involved stressed participants having rose essential oil applied directly to their skin, resulting in a lower blood pressure, breathing rate, blood oxygen saturation, and pulse rate. Furthermore, the same participants felt calmer and more relaxed.

Inhaling the fragrance of rose oil through aromatherapy may also have emotional benefits for anxiety relief, moods, stress levels, and relaxation to that sense of calm. Read this fascinating study about patients about to undergo surgery given rose oil aromatherapy by inhalation to reduce preoperative anxiety of patients undergoing septorhinoplasty/rhinoplasty had it lowered.

Brain health and memory: Another study focused on the inhalation of rose essential oil through a diffuser every night for six months improved learning and memory. Though more research is needed, this study has promising hope for protecting again dementia and better memory and the ability to stay more focused.

Nature’s Gift to Beauty: DIY Rose Oil Recipes for a Radiant You

To take advantage of the power behind rose oil, you can also make your own beauty treatments.
Check out a few of my diy rose oil recipes that I often turn too as well.

Homemade Rose Face Wash Recipe – You can collect a lot of rose petals and add enough distilled water to cover them in a big pot, covering it, and simmering them for about a half hour or longer until the color mostly disappears. Cool the rose water before trying to work with it in the recipe.

What I like to do when I don’t have enough rose petals is to buy natural certified organic rose water that is as pure as possible. Look for ones in dark bottles that particularly have R. Damascena or R. Centifolia when reading the label because those are the most concentrated forms. Ingredients at the top of the ingredient list are the ones with most of the ingredient in order of how much of each is in the formula.
