As someone with long and naturally dry hair, I try my best to take good care of my strands and ensure they get enough nourishment in order to prevent breakage. And while I have tried many shampoo and conditioner formulas that can maintain moisture and promote healthy strands, I saw a major difference when testing the Leaf+Flower CBD Instant Damage Correction Shampoo and Conditioner ($59) duo. What makes these formulas stand out from other damage-prevention shampoos and conditioners is their not-so-secret key ingredient, CBD.

How it works

“CBD helps speed up the healing process for the skin,” says Kenna Ehman, a hairstylist and co-owner of Kenna Kunijo salon. With this in mind, Ehman says it can also be great for the hair—especially damaged strands—because of its repair factor.

Plus, CBD oil, which contains 20 amino acids and vitamins A, B, C, D, E, magnesium, potassium, and essential fatty acids (like omegas 3, 6, 9), helps form collagen, “which nourishes and strengthens scalp tissue, and improves hair elasticity and strength, and allows hair follicles to expand faster, encouraging healthy hair growth,” Jennifer Negron, a Florida-based stylist, previously told W+G. “Overall, CBD in hair care helps improve the integrity of hair, while adding moisture, shine, smoothness and silkiness.” Basically, CBD can make your hair look good while helping it grow stronger and healthier.

My honest review of Leaf+Flower CBD shampoo and conditioner

The Leaf+Flower CBD shampoo and conditioner duo worked wonders on dry strands. As someone with naturally dry hair (it currently has semi-permanent dye, with old bleach on my ends, and I use the Dyson Airwrap when styling) and a ton of length, it’s hard to keep my strands feeling moisturized beyond my roots, but using this duo totally changed that for me.

The CBD shampoo lathers incredibly well and left my hair feeling super hydrated—so hydrated, in fact, that I had to double-check the bottle to make sure it isn’t a two-in-one shampoo and conditioner formula. With all of this hydration, the shampoo formula is a little on the heavier side, so I don’t recommend it to those with oily roots. However, if you have a dry, irritated scalp, you’ll definitely notice a difference after the first wash (even while your hair is still wet).

After rinsing the CBD shampoo out, I reached for the Leaf+Flower Instant Damage Correction Conditioner, which was soft and creamy to the touch and super easy to apply to my ends. While the shampoo feels a little heavy, the conditioner actually has a more lightweight texture that I think would work well for dry hair as well as combination hair types. It’s also easy to apply—even if you have super long hair like me—so you don’t have to worry about going in with extra conditioner to get enough coverage.

Upon rinsing the conditioner, I immediately saw a difference in the way my hair held onto its hydration. Normally, my ends dry fairly fast because they are so parched. However, after towel drying my strands, my hair was still damp from roots to ends and even had some more wave to it, which is usually a sign that hair is well-nourished. Once I dried and styled my hair, I noticed much less frizz and a silkier finish, plus my hair actually felt like it was conditioned.

I’m definitely not the only one who’s noticed a difference in their hair after using the formulation. Others have noted how healthy and shiny the shampoo and conditioner have made their damaged hair—with some shoppers claiming the products helped thicken strands. “My stylist recommended [this] shampoo and conditioner to thicken my hair. It absolutely works! I can see baby hairs at my hairline, plus it leaves my hair soft and shiny,” one person writes.

One stylist shares, “As a stylist, I am always searching for the best products. Currently this is my favorite product. I have used it multiple times on clients with different hair texture and all of them love how it feels! It leaves your hair clean, smelling nice, with a beautiful shine.”

If your hair needs some TLC (maybe because it’s color-treated, you’ve been spending a lot of time in the pool, you use a lot of heating tools—or all of the above), give this CBD-infused shampoo and conditioner set a try.
