The resurgence of the fanny pack as a socially acceptable, and even desirable, way to tote around belongings has been surprising to me. The once dorky accessory of my youth is now proudly worn across the chest of so many people every time I walk out the door. From lululemon to Kate Spade, brands across industries and price points are leaning into the trend of “belt” bags and sling bags.
Don’t get me wrong, when I said surprising before, I did not mean that in a bad way. I absolutely love that fanny packs have gone through a little rebranding moment. But, with all of the variations and options out there, it’s important to get a belt bag that will accomplish exactly what I want it to—carry the necessities (with some room to spare), not get in the way, and look great whether I’m going on a walk or hitting the town.
There is one product that, according to both the number of times it has sold out completely and a number of first-person reviews we’ve gathered, has gotten the formula just right. The lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag ($38) is an adjustable and waterproof bag that can be worn across the chest, over the shoulder, or at the hips. A little bit larger than a standard 4×6” photograph, it’s petite enough to not steal the show, but still fit the essentials.
If you’re not sold, allow some reviews from proud owners to persuade you:
“I love the green color of my fanny pack. It’s waterproof, and has the perfect amount of space for my wallet, keys, headphones and phone. It’s also great for traveling, and it doesn’t seem out of place whether I am headed out sightseeing during the day or going to dinner in the evening.” –Maggie, W+G reader
“I love my Lululemon fanny pack! It’s perfect for running errands or a quick walk in my neighborhood. I also use it when I go to the gym. The adjustable strap is useful when wearing over bulkier clothing, and the cross-body style makes it easier and safer to carry on the go.” –Ellie, W+G reader
“I love how versatile my Lululemon belt bag is. Whether I’m taking a walk, running errands, or traveling without a large purse, it’s so easy wear across my chest, around my waist, or to throw over my shoulder. It has the perfect amount of space for all of my daily essentials: phone, keys, small wallet, lip balm and headphones, and the black color goes with literally anything I’m wearing.” – Jen Synder, Sr. Director, Experiential and Brand Projects
The Everywhere Belt Bag was just restocked, and four new colors have been added (including tie-dye and pastels—perfect for spring!). If history is any indication, you should snag one before they sell out again, and just in time for the spring walks and vacations we are hoping you make time for this year.
