As expected of a vehicle bearing the Volvo badge, the XC90 offers copious standard safety features. No surprise, then, that both the strictly gas-powered XC90 and the plug-in XC90 Recharge nab IIHS’s Top Safety Pick+ award. Though the XC90’s infotainment system is a sore point, the rest of this SUV is hard to fault. Sure, we wish the XC90 was a little bit more engaging from the driver’s seat, but if you’re willing to sacrifice some behind-the-wheel enjoyment, then the XC90’s cushy seats, spacious insides, and Scandinavian design ought to whet your appetite for a stylish—and safe—three-row mid-size luxury SUV.
