We all know coffee is a magical drink that can perk us up in the morning. It boosts our focus and mood and gets our creative juices flowing.

So it’s no wonder it’s one of the most beloved beverages in the world in all its variations — iced, hot, black, flavored, you name it.

But let’s face it, while coffee offers many health benefits, it can also do a number on our stomachs with its high acidity.

And that’s why today, we’re dedicating this post to low-acidic coffee.

In this post we’re going to explore the benefits of low-acidic coffee, as well as the best-tasting low-acid coffee brands out there.

Low Acidic Coffee

Coffee may be our go-to pick-me-up, but if you’re wondering if coffee is acidic or not… the answer is: absolutely.

The pH level of your average cup of coffee hovers around a 5, making it pretty acidic.

But here’s the kicker: compared to other acidic drinks, like orange juice or soda, the acidity of coffee actually falls somewhere smack-dab in the middle.

Although it’s not the biggest offender on the pH chart, it’s still no innocent bystander.

Now, when it comes to drinking acidic beverages regularly, it could potentially lead to some unwanted guests crashing our digestive party. Anyone heard of acid reflux?  

Alright, let’s spill the beans on what low-acidic coffee is anyway?

What is Low Acid Coffee?

So, your morning routine requires you to drink coffee before you take on your work/errands/etc. But… your lil’ sensitive stomach just ain’t having it?

Well, this is where low-acidic coffee would potentially step in to save the day.

Unlike regular coffee, which can sometimes wreak THE MOST havoc upon our delicate guts, this smooth operator is much easier to digest. It’s still got your favorite coffee beans but with a funky twist. 

The low-acid coffee process involves brewing the beans in a way that removes most of the acidity, resulting in a drink that’s easier on the gut.

Plus, low acid does NOT mean low flavor. Low-acidic coffee still tastes just like regular stuff, regardless of whether you prefer light roast, medium roast, or dark roast coffee. 

How is Low Acid Coffee Made?

Unlike traditional coffee, low-acid coffee is made from beans that are naturally low in acid, like arabica beans, or have been treated to reduce acidity levels. 

To make low-acidic coffee, the beans are roasted for a longer time at a lower temperature, which helps break down the acids and make it easier on your stomach.

Sounds pretty simple, right?

Is Low Acid Coffee Better For You?

So, is it?

The answer is: hell yeah

Low-acid coffee, especially when used to make the Mexican spicy coffee we love so much (shout out Kristen Cavallari!) or a smooth fiber coffee, can be a major game-changer when it comes to your health.

As we’ve mentioned earlier, regular coffee’s natural pH can cause all sorts of tummy troubles.

But with low-acid coffee, you can still get all the perks of a delicious French roast, minus the burn. And if you’re all about that cold brew, low-acid coffee can be your new BFF. 

According to a report with Nature Journal, cold brew coffee was found to have lower concentrations of acidic compounds and may be less chemically diverse than hot brew coffee.

Kinda sounds like low-acidic coffee is much better for you… at least it does to us.

Best Low-Acid Coffee Brands to Try

Purity Coffee Ease Dark Roast Whole Bean Coffee

This coffee is made with organic, high-altitude beans from Nicaragua and Guatemala.

It’s got a smooth, rich flavor profile with hints of chocolate and nuts. 

Purity Coffee also boasts a pH level of 6.2, making it one of the lowest-acid coffees on the market. 

Trücup Born to Be Mild Light Roast

Trücup coffee is a unique brand that uses a proprietary method to remove acids from the coffee beans before roasting.

Born to Be Mild is a light roast that has a nutty, sweet taste with zero bitterness.

Plus, its pH level is 5.74, which is lower than most other coffee brands.

Cafe Don Pedro French Roast Low Acid Coffee

This coffee is a blend of specialty-grade Arabica beans from South America that are roasted to perfection.

It has a bold flavor with notes of dark chocolate and a pH level of 5.89, putting it in the low-acid category.

Golden Ratio Original Gold Coffee

Golden Ratio uses a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans that are roasted to a medium-dark roast level.

The result is a well-balanced coffee with a smooth AF finish and a pH level of 6.0!

Lifeboost Coffee Embolden Dark Roast

Lifeboost Coffee is a single-origin brand that sources beans from a family-owned farm in Nicaragua.

The Embolden Dark Roast has a bold, rich flavor with notes of caramel and chocolate. It has a pH level of 6.1. which is the second lowest-acidic coffee on this list!

Bulletproof The Original

This coffee is made with high-quality beans that are free of mold toxins. 

The Original blend is a medium-roast coffee that has a creamy, full-bodied flavor with hints of cinnamon. 

Much like the Golden Ratio option, its pH level is 6.0, putting it in the low-acid category.

Volcanica Low-Acid Coffee

The folks at Volcanica source their beans from the volcanic mountain ranges of Central and South America. 

Their low-acid coffee has a smooth and mellow taste, with a pH level of 5.8, which lands it on the low-acid end of the spectrum.

Mommee Coffee

Mommee Coffee is specifically formulated for pregnant and nursing mothers who want to enjoy a cup of coffee without the negative side effects. 

Their medium roast has a sweet, nutty flavor with a pH level of 5.5. And while this coffee is a bit MORE acidic than the other brands on this list, it’s still considered a low-acid coffee.

Puroast Coffee Dark French Roast

This coffee is roasted at a lower temperature, which results in lower acidity. 

The Dark French Roast has a bold and savory flavor with a pH level of 5.85, making it a relatively low-acid option for all you coffee lovers out there!

Kion Organic Whole Bean Coffee Medium Roast

And last but certainly not least, there’s Kion Coffee. Lauryn and Michael’s favorite (with an inch of raw milk of course).

This coffee is made with high-quality, sustainably sourced beans from Colombia, Honduras, and Guatemala.

The Medium Roast has a smooth and well-balanced flavor profile with notes of dark chocolate and a pH level of 5.85.
