The Tesla Mannequin 3 Efficiency is coming again

At the same time as the Tesla Model 3 made its Australian in-person debut this week, the company also confirmed the return of a hot Performance version for 2024.

Daniel Ho, director of vehicle programs at Tesla, not only told media the range-topping Model 3 Performance would be making a return in the first half of 2024, but it would also be “pretty special”.

Details are scant at this stage and there’s no indication on pricing but the Aussie-born Ho was keen to point out Tesla “left a few things on the table” with the last iteration.

Not that the previous Model 3 Performance lacked any go. It could accelerate from 0-100km/h in a scorching 3.3 seconds and had a maximum speed of 261km/h.

By way of comparison, the updated Model 3 Long Range needs 4.4 seconds, while the base can do the benchmark sprint in 6.1 seconds.

The refreshed 2024 Model 3 boasts more than 50 per cent new parts including new exterior panels, an overhauled interior, and updated technology and software.

The new Performance should therefore benefit from hardware and software upgrades in accordance with its likely uprated power, braking and handling attributes.

The updated Tesla Model 3 Performance will sit above the new 2024 Model 3 Long Range AWD ($71,900) plus on-roads and entry-level Model 3 RWD ($61,900), but will wear the same ‘Model 3 Performance’ badge as its predecessor.

The RWD and Long Range have already been revealed, with Australian deliveries set for February to March 2024.
