Make some time on the weekend for Curvature, a map that shows you the world’s most winding roads.
The system is built on the OpenStreetMap (OSM) project, which is a publicly accessible data set that maps the entire world.
An algorithm is applied to the OpenStreetMap project, which calculates the radius of curves and then adds the length of these stretches of road to get the total distance spent cornering.
Put simply, the greater the distance of a road and the time spent cornering, the twistier the road.
The system breaks down the roads into a grade system with yellow indicating a moderately twisty road and pink signifying a very twisty section of road.
To look at the map, head to the Curvature website.
Where are the best roads you’ve driven on in Australia? Let us know in the comments if those roads are on the map.
