New vehicle sales in Saudi Arabia rise 12.1% year-on-year in 2022 to 636,746 units. Toyota (+23.1%) almost doubles the market growth rate to reach 31.1% share vs. 28.4% in 2021. Hyundai (-5.8%) and Nissan (-5.2%) are in difficulty and round out a podium unchanged on 2021. Changan (+21.9%) excels but stays at #4 above Isuzu (+44.1%) up two spots to #5. Kia (+14.3%) and MG (+24.4%) also shine below while Geely (+67%) breaks into the Saudi Top 10 for the first time, making it three Chinese brands among the 10 best-sellers. All in all, Chinese manufacturers are up 22.2% year-on-year to cross the 100,000 annual unit market for the first time with 15.8% share vs. 14.6% a year ago. Further down the charts, Suzuki (+119.3%) and Genesis (+64.7%) stand out.
Over in the models charts, the Toyota Camry (+11.6%) matches the market to repeat at #1 with 5.9% share. Toyota monopolises the podium with the Hilux (+32.8%) and Yaris (+20.7%) in tow and both gaining share. #1 in 2021 and #2 last year, the Hyundai Elantra (-1.3%) drops to #4 ahead of a very energetic Isuzu TF (+37%). The Hyundai Accent (-25.6%) skids to #6 with the Toyota Corolla (+7.4%) and Nissan Sunny (+1.6%) both down one spot to #7 and #8 respectively. The MG 5 (+67%) cracks the Top 10 at #9 while the Ford Taurus (+14.5%) rounds out the Top 10 like in 2021. The Geely Emgrand (#28) is the best-selling 2022 launch above the Ford Territory (#63) and Changan UNI-K (#75).
