The Toyota Kijang Innova is the best-selling vehicle in Indonesia again.
New wholesales in Indonesia drop -8.3% year-on-year in August to 88,876 units, yet thank to a solid first half, the year-to-date cume is up 2.6% to 675,287. Retail sales are off -11.1% to 86,361 for the month and up 4.4% year-to-date to 665,251. In the wholesales brands ranking, Toyota (-2.3%) manages to lose less ground than the market to remain ultradominant at 33.9% share. It is followed by Daihatsu (+14%) and Honda (+3.1%) both ignoring the depleted overall sales to post year-on-year gains. In fact they are the only gainers in the Top 10 with Wuling (-61.2%), Hyundai (-41.5%), Fuso (-33.6%), Hino (-21%) and Isuzu (-19.1%) all in freefall. Just outside the Top 10, Mazda (+84.3%), BMW (+40.7%) and Lexus (+263.1%) score fantastic lifts just as newcomer Chery climbs 2 spots on July to #12. Retail-wise, Toyota (-6.3%), Daihatsu (-1.3%) and Honda (-8.5%) dominate above Mitsubishi (+4%) and Suzuki (-9.9%).
Over in the models aisle, the Toyota Kijang Innova (+89%) repeats at #1 with 8.4% share but stays #4 year-to-date. In 2nd place, the Daihatsu Sigra (+51.5%) is up one spot on July and grabs the year-to-date lead in the process. The Toyota Avanza (-10.6%) is also up one to #3 and now ranks #2 YTD, followed by the Honda Brio (+29.4%). The Daihatsu Gran Max Pikap (+2.3%) is solid in 5th position ahead of the Toyota Calya (-27.7%) and Suzuki Carry Pikap (-35.1%) both in difficulty.
