New vehicle sales in Kuwait climb 11.4% year-on-year in 2022 to 113,430 units. Toyota (+41.5%) vastly outraces the market to improve from an already ultra dominant 28.8% last year to 36.5% now. Chevrolet (+18.4%) also beats the average growth and snap the 2nd place overall off Nissan (-32.7%) in complete freefall. Mitsubishi (-14%) also can’t keep up with the market but manages to stay at #4. Kia (+5.3%) and Ford (+3.3%) also underperform but camp on their FY2021 spots at #5 and #6 respectively. MG (+64.3%) scores the largest year-on-year gain in the Top 10 and the Top 20, rising three ranks to #6 with 4.1% of the market. Below, Chinese fares Haval (+100.3%), Geely (+60.7%) and Changan (+45.5%) also post spectacular upticks.
The Toyota Prado (+152.9%) surges three spots on 2021 to land in the pole position, its first win since 2018 which was the end of an 8-year stint at #1. The Toyota Land Cruiser (+14.7%) is toppled to #2 despite beating the market. The Camry (+10.7%) ensures the podium is 100% Toyota. Outstanding result for the Chevrolet Captiva (+28.3%) aka Baojun 530, up two ranks on last year to #4 overall. The Toyota Corolla (+71.2%) does even better at #5, up 7 spots year-on-year. The Toyota Hiace (+34.8%) also shines at #7. The best-selling 2022 launches are the Ford Territory at #57, the Changan UNI-K at #71 and the Toyota Lite Ace at #90.
