The Vietnamese new vehicle market surges 24.1% or almost 100,000 units year-on-year in 2022 to a record 509,141 sales. This is the first time the 500,000 annual volume milestone is passed in Vietnam. Toyota (+34.9%) is up two spots to snap the brands pole position with 17.9% share, leapfrogging past Thaco-Kia (+20%) and last year’s leader Hyundai (+15.7%). Mitsubishi (+46.3%), Mazda (+32.1%) and Honda (+41.2%) all beat the market below. Ford (+21.7%) and Suzuki (+18%) underperform while Isuzu (+25.4%) follows the market. Local brand VinFast (-35.8%) sinks to #8, partly due to irregular reporting across the year.
Model-wise, the Toyota Vios (+18%) reclaims the top spot for the 8th time in the past 9 years with 4.6% of the market, with the Top 4 all within a little more than 2,000 units. The Hyundai Accent (+13.5%) stays #2 above the Mitsubishi Xpander (+61.4%) up four spots to #3 and the Toyota Corolla Cross (+16.6%) remaining at #4. The Ford Ranger (+5.1%) and Honda City (+50.8%) follow. The Toyota Veloz is the most popular 2022 launch at #7 above the Hyundai Creta at #10.
