The Trent-Severn Waterway will open on schedule this Victoria Day long weekend for the second straight year.
Before this, the opening of the 386-kilometre route linking the Bay of Quinte to Georgian Bay was delayed by a provincial stay-at-home order in 2021, a pandemic-related Parks Canada service suspension in 2020, and high-water levels in 2019.
Continuing repairs on Kirkfield Lock 36, however, will result in expedited single-chamber lockages there to start the season, Parks Canada stated. The lock was closed on Sept. 2, 2022 following a mechanical failure. These lockages will operate on demand and are estimated to take approximately 60 minutes, officials said.
