Two Days of Enjoyable(gi): Kennett Sq. Mushroom Pageant Returns, September 9-10

Dates
September 9-10, 2017

Overview

Mushroom lovers across the nation converge in historic Kennett Square each year on the weekend after Labor Day. They come to celebrate the humble fungi known as the mushroom at the Kennett Square Mushroom Festival, a two-day festival of food and family fun.

Now in its 32nd year, the annual fest is expected to attract more than 100,000 mushroom aficionados. Highlights of this year’s festival include the National Fried Mushroom Eating Championship, an Antique and Classic Car Show, a Mushroom 5k Run/2-mile Walk winding past local mushroom farms, an Amateur Mushroom Cook-off and more.

Read on for our complete guide to the festival.

The Parade

On September 9, a parade starts the Kennett Square Mushroom Festival. The community parade rolls through town starting at 6 p.m. at State and Willow streets.

Following the parade, stay in town for live music, dining and dancing in the streets.

Carnival and Street Fair

Though mushrooms are the centerpiece of the festival, the prime attractions are certainly the carnival and street fair.

Take part in an old-fashioned carnival featuring rides, games and all your favorite carnival foods. The carnival takes place at 600 South Broad Street in Kennett Square.

On Saturday and Sunday (September 9-10), nearly 200 vendors from all over the country will line the streets of downtown Kennett Square with arts, crafts, food and more.

Festival Highlights

Year after year, the festival promises a variety of mushroom-centric and non-mushroom-centric events. From juggling acts to photo contests to cook-offs, different events unfold at all times of the day throughout the festival.
