U.S. Trusted Traveler Program Charges Improve

The application fees for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Trusted Traveler Programs Global Entry and Nexus each increased to $120 on Oct. 1, according to the agency. The fee for Sentri also has been made a uniform $120. The fees are for individuals aged 18 and older and are valid for five years once approved.

The Global Entry fee had been $100. The fee for Nexus, a joint program managed by CBP and the Canada Border Services Agency that allows dedicated processing between the U.S. and Canada, had been $50.

Fees for Sentri, which allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers using dedicated primary lanes at southern land border ports, previously were structured and could exceed the new $120 amount. CBP did not respond to requests for additional detail.

CBP said the increases are the first for these fees since 2008.

The additional monies will be used for the CBP “to improve customer service through technology improvements, optimized processes, and expansion to additional ports across the northern border.”
